JAMES R-I SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASSIFIED POSITION DESCRIPTION Title: Custodian Qualifications: Possess the physical ability to perform the essential job functions Be skilled at cleaning and other custodial responsibilities Listen to and follow directions Exhibit good communication skills Maintain positive relationships and a professional appearance Use basic office technology such as email, internet, and computers Provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, develop, and play Reports to: Building and Grounds Director Performance Objectives : Keep building and premises neat and clean at all times Sweep classrooms daily and dust furniture Clean corridors each day Scrub, wash down, and disinfect toilet floors daily, and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily Wash all windows on both the inside and outside as needed Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation Clean all whiteboards at least once a week Report any damage to the school property to the Custodial Lead Move furniture and/or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Custodial Lead Organize special function setups such as games, dances, etc., during the week and on weekends Work modified schedule on weekends and when necessary to meet District events and facility schedules; must be approved by the Building and Grounds Director Make minor building repairs and report major repairs needed to the Lead Custodian Comply with local laws/procedures for storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste Ensure that all doors and windows are appropriately locked Must be able to go up and down stairs frequently, as well as regular bending and standing as needed in a daily shift Assist in major clean-up in summer, such as washing desks and chairs, washing down walls, stripping and waxing floors, etc. Pull weeds, keep grounds free of rubbish and in winter shovel snow from steps and sidewalks and apply ice melt when appropriate Attend meetings as scheduled by the Building and Grounds Director Complete requested paperwork, electronic forms, surveys, or training as requested Will work closely with and support the Custodial Lead who is under the direct supervision of the Building and Grounds Director Comply with federal, state, local, and Board of Education policies and regulations Other duties as assigned by the Custodial Lead and/or Building and Grounds Director
