About Thompson Creek Mine
The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.

In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.

Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About The Opportunity
We are looking for a Buyer t o join our Thompson Creek team. The Buyer coordinates activities involved with procuring goods and services, such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, and supplies for organization. Assists in the warehouse, as necessary.

Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Reviews requisitions. Communicates with users to determine/clarify specifications and requirements. Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Selects products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items. Estimates values according to knowledge of market price. Determines method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid. Prepares purchase orders or bid requests based on "Value" to TCM not price alone.
  • Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority. Maintains procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take (make) corrective action decisions. Expedites delivery of goods to users and maintains contact with users regarding delivery and planning expectations.
  • Reviews stock inventory needs and fills needed orders from reorder report and Bulk Inventory readings and reports.
  • Reviews inventory with Maintenance and Operations on a periodic basis for obsolete and un-needed inventory items. Establishes new inventory items when requested by Operations, Maintenance, or Management, and enters the data needed to execute purchase and replenishment into the Mine Point system for Purchase, Receipt, and Payment to the vendor.

  • Assists the warehouse in inventory management (Min/Max, reorder points) and makes the final decision on quantities purchased, and from what supplier(s).
  • Manage contracts by tracking terms, renewals, negotiating terms.
  • Maintain relations with vendors through written and verbal means, and physical presence to assure the spirit of cooperation exists with all major suppliers.
  • Obtains information for properly vetting and setting up new vendors
  • Other duties as assigned.
About You
To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required :
  • Three to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A.A. or B.A. degree in related field is desirable.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, previous heavy industrial purchasing experience, and knowledge of SAP are a plus.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong computer skills including experience with PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with others.
  • Ability to drive results and ensure completion of time sensitive deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, and able to work without supervision.
