What you'll be doing

The Community Food Co-op's Janitors maintain the cleanliness of the building and grounds, performs minor repairs, and are responsible for providing a welcoming and inclusive environment by offering great customer service.

The Janitor position reports to the Maintenance Department Managers.

Location & Commitments

  • Cordata Store, 315 Westerly Rd, Bellingham, WA
  • Full-time, Non-Exempt
  • Starting pay is $17.30/hr (range is $17.30-$20.70)
  • Tuesday-Friday, 3am -11:30am. Hours and days vary, morning, evenings, and weekend shifts will be assigned
  • Schedules are posted at least 2 weeks in advance
What you'll be responsible for
  • Ensure that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment, which includes greeting and acknowledging customers, maintaining Co-op customer service standards, solid product knowledge, explain store policies and procedures concisely, maintain an awareness of all promotions and advertisements and all other aspects of customer service.
  • Explain store policies and procedures clearly, completely, and concisely to customers.
  • Maintain cleanliness of store by cleaning break room, restrooms, equipment, fixtures and removing garbage
  • Maintain floors with daily sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and buffing with periodic stripping, waxing and spill clean-up
  • Maintain safe and clean grounds through sweeping, clean up and snow/ice management
  • Complete cleaning tasks in timely manner upon request from Maintenance Lead
  • Familiar with and able to explain membership system simply, efficiently and completely
  • Keep Maintenance lead and Store Manager informed of cleaning and equipment problems and ideas for improvement.
  • Know and promote Co-op Principles and Mission
  • Participate in team, staff and other meetings as scheduled
  • Performing other duties as needed and assigned
Requirements

What skills are needed
  • Ability to provide friendly face-to-face customer service in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to operate all tools and equipment necessary to perform the job
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be available to work a variety of shifts including early mornings from 3am-11:30am and weekends
  • Attention to detail and multitasking skills
  • Ability to speak and comprehend English well, multi-lingual is great
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
Physical requirements (with or without accommodation)
  • Ability to work in moderate and loud noise environments including, but not limited to: paging, telephones, human voices, music, and machinery.
  • Must be able to meet physical demands including standing, bending, twisting, pushing/pulling carts, repetitive motion, keyboarding, and lifting 10-40lbs regularly
  • Ability to climb ladders occasionally
