Announcement Open Unit Filled Dept/Div: Public Works/Facilities Management FLSA Status: Non-Exempt General Definition of Work Performs manual work in the care and cleaning of facilities, buildings and grounds, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Custodian Supervisor. Continuous supervision is exercised over assigned Community Service Workers. Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Essential Functions Assists in oversight of community service workers and work assignments in progress. Sweeps, vacuums, mops, and buffs floors; shampoos carpets; strips and waxes floors. Removes trash and recyclables from buildings and surrounding areas and transports to disposal area. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms; refills toilet paper, paper towels, and soap dispensers. Cleans hallways, lobbies, lounges, elevators, stairways, and other areas of high traffic; cleans and disinfects water fountains, door handles, light switches, and door plates; cleans windows and doors; removes dust from baseboards, chair rails, and window seals; cleans tables, desks, walls, chairs, and blinds. Pours, mixes, and uses disinfectants, cleaning fluids and other chemical materials. Performs duties relating to setting up rooms and facilities for functions. Notifies supervisor of maintenance and repair issues. May be required to work occasional variable schedule (i.e. special events, weekends). Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent customer service. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities General knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment and ability to use them economically and efficiently; ability to understand oral and written directions; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to read and write; physical ability to perform heavy manual work; ability to work independently; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. Education and Experience High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Requirements This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic). Special Requirements Favorable background history as determined by review of local, State and Federal records. Valid driver's license in the State of Georgia with a favorable driving history (MVR).
