General Thomas P. Stafford. The museum is a dynamic, fast growing, stably-funded operation, and is already one of only three air & space museums in the U.S. to receive TripAdvisor and Googles coveted Five-Star rating. The facility has quickly grown into the largest air & space museum in the central U.S. by size, with more than 63,000 sq.ft. under roof. In the last six years, the Foundation has raised nearly $10 million for museum expansion, renovations, and new exhibits.
The Director of the Stafford Museum serves as both a Department Head for the City, as well as the Executive Director of the Foundation. As a City employee, the Director reports directly to the City Mayor who serves in place of a City Manager. For the Foundation, the Director reports directly to a separate, and active 10-member Board of Directors. This is a highly synergistic relationship between the City and the Foundation that has been highly productive as both are committed to working toward the common goal of developing a nationally important air & space museum and educational center.
