Caterpillar is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager in Brooklyn Park. In this role, you will collaborate and manage a team responsible for maintaining and improving processes and systems required for the manufacturing of the products produced in the value stream. Further you will analyze and recommend current and future systems procedures and equipment needs based on manufacturing requirements

What you can look forward to in this role: Manage a small team of technical support personnel responsible for troubleshooting prime product and support of manufacturing processes. Responsible for tool design, manufacturing processing, part replenishment & presentation, cost estimating and requires the coordination of all disciplines that support the value stream. Responsible for assigned manufacturing area and through staff support, provide tooling, machines, processes, and equipment to complete the operation and meet department objectives. Coordinate the process changes to provide the most safe, efficient, and economical manufacture or assembly of quality parts. Ensure optimum utilization of equipment and space by coordinating the layout of areas such as storage areas, equipment, etc. to accommodate the changing production requirements. Establish standards and work with shop personnel to resolve problems related to process, tooling, equipment, etc. Ensure implementation of modern technology and follow to determine effectiveness of equipment and systems. Coordinate process enhancement and to improve safety, quality, and production demands. Supervise a work unit of management and salaried employees where planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reviewing work of subordinates is required. Responsible for expense budgets, expenditures, and all personnel issues in the area including performance evaluations of subordinates. Confront complex issues and problems that require careful analysis and diagnosis. Ability to solve problems that are often unique and provide solutions that may require original approaches. Establish and monitor general policies and guidelines for areas under their control, to ensure specific management goals are met and desired results are achieved. The position impacts key goals including Employee Safety, Continuous Improvement, Delivery Timeliness, Equipment Accuracy, Operational Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Capability, Part Quality, ISO Certification, etc.

A successful candidate in this role will showcase their skills in: Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment. Judgment and Decision Making: Knowledge of the decision-making process; ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance. Capacity Planning & Management - MFG: Knowledge of tools, approaches and practices for determining production demand and ability to manage resources needed to provide satisfactory levels of service. Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes. Manufacturing Equipment: Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing; ability to safely operate, maintain, update and store them. Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process. Manufacturing Safety: Knowledge of manufacturing safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site. Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.

Top Candidates for this position may also have: Technical accredited degree with 5 years of engineering experience OR a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in a heavy equipment manufacturing environment. Project management experience. A thorough knowledge of planning systems, manufacturing operations, facilities, methods, and tooling. Analytical ability as well as communication skills. Previous supervisory experience. 5 to 8 years of strong technical and analytical development and ability to deliver results that contribute to business success. Experience with Caterpillar Paving Equipment and Processes. Caterpillar Production Software System experience.
