ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONSVarious client facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESComplies with ATC policies/procedures.Complies with client facility policies/procedures.Provides patient care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved. Maintains confidentiality relative to patient care and facility practices in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).Practices established infection control and cleans hands as per established guidelines.Assesses pain, medicates, or contacts physicians for orders.Provides pre-procedure and post-procedure teaching.Arranges necessary equipment and supplies for kidney dialysis of the patients. Ensures that the doctor is provided with all the lab work values as per protocol. Provide patient monitoring during the dialysis process and post treatment. Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during shift. Responds to emergency conditions.Operates dialysis machine.Weighs patient, takes vital signs and blood samples.Accesses dialysis port for treatment. Determines clotting times and administers heparin according to a prescribed protocol.Measures and adjusts blood flow rates.Calculates fluid removal (TMP).Monitors patient during treatment. Documents treatment.Observes dialysis equipment for correct functioning during dialysis, responds to alarms and makes appropriate adjustments.Initiates cardiopulmonary resuscitation measures in the event of cardiac and/or pulmonary emergencies.Discontinues dialysis utilizing established procedures.
