Job Title: SMT Process Engineer

Overview: As an SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Process Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation and optimization of Surface Mount Technology processes within the manufacturing environment. Your responsibilities will encompass overseeing the entire SMT production process, from initial design and development to implementation and continuous improvement. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to achieve production goals while maintaining the highest quality standards. Must have Tier automotive manufacturing experience(link removed)>

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Process Optimization: Develop, optimize, and maintain Surface Mount Technology processes to improve efficiency, yield, and quality.

  2. Equipment Selection and Maintenance: Evaluate, select, and maintain SMT equipment, ensuring they meet production requirements and standards. Coordinate with maintenance teams for timely repairs and preventative maintenance.

  3. Programming and Setup: Develop and maintain SMT machine programming, ensuring accurate and efficient placement of components. Oversee machine setup and ensure proper calibration.

  4. Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure the highest level of product quality. Develop and monitor metrics to identify and address quality issues promptly.

  5. Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve process-related issues, including machine malfunctions, component placement errors, and quality defects. Implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  6. Process Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures, and process parameters. Ensure documentation complies with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

  7. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements. Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives and Kaizen events.

  8. Training and Support: Provide training and support to production personnel on SMT processes, equipment operation, and quality standards. Ensure operators are proficient in performing their duties effectively.

  9. Collaboration: Collaborate with design engineering, production planning, quality assurance, and other cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of SMT processes into the manufacturing workflow. Participate in design reviews and provide input on manufacturability.

  10. Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements governing SMT processes. Ensure a safe working environment for all personnel and compliance with relevant regulations such as ISO standards.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in Surface Mount Technology processes, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of SMT equipment, including pick-and-place machines, reflow soldering systems, and inspection equipment.
  • Proficiency in programming SMT machines and familiarity with industry-standard software platforms.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve process-related issues effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
