Assistant City Engineer

Under direction of the City Engineer is responsible for the performance of civil engineering in connection with municipal public works programs. Work is performed in the field or office involving investigation, development, design, construction and maintenance of civil engineering infrastructure.

Acts as supervisor in absence of City Engineer.

Performs related duties as requested.

Performs engineering activities related to the plan review of both private and public sanitary sewers, water, street, and storm sewer improvements.

Responds to Citizen requests and inquiries.

Supervision of 1-4 construction inspectors.

Delivers presentations before Council on public works projects. BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited University or College with ABET approved major course work.

Requires at least four (4) years engineering experience; or equivalent education and experience.

Must have an Ohio E.I. certification.

An Ohio P.E. certification is preferred.

Possession of a valid Ohio Driver's license.

Physical ability to perform the duties of the position with reasonable accommodation. Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering. Knowledge of modern methods and techniques for the construction, inspection, and maintenance of public works projects. Knowledge of the principles and practices of land surveying. Knowledge of AutoCAD and ArcGIS. Knowledge of the principles of pavement management and its use in the selection of streets for preventive maintenance and reconstruction. Knowledge of HydroCAD and stormwater calculations. Skill in using computer programs such as Microsoft Office to prepare memos, spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations. Ability to provide a broad range of supervisory responsibility over others.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and public.

Ability to draft Request for Proposals (RFP’s) to Consultant’s for various Public Works projects.

Ability to administer capital improvement projects such as the Annual Street Program.

Prepare contract documents, specifications, estimates; oversee the bidding process, the administration of the contract and construction inspection.

Ability to review plans for public works projects and private developments.

Draft memos of review comments for consultants and developers.

Ability to write thorough and succinct reports and other necessary correspondence.

Ability to make presentations before Council, Planning Board, and other groups.
