Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings

carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
**Scope of Position**: This position is responsible for promoting and ensuring a safe work environment for all personnel associated with capital construction projects. Duties include facilitating and communicating safety programs and policies to project engineers, technicians, and contract trades resources. The Project Safety Manager will work in conjunction with Project Managers, Plant and Division Safety managers to continuously improve project safety policies and practices. He/she will develop, implement and enforce project specific safety programs in accordance with the corporate and division construction project safety policies. Develop relationships with Plant Managers and Safety Managers of each plant/facility we have resources working in.
**Day to Day Responsibilities**:
* Ensure compliance with all plant, division, corporate and OSHA policies and regulations
* Be a change agent to drive continuous improvement in overall project safety performance through programs such as employee engagement, hazard recognition / elimination, behavioral based safety, consistency amongst sites, etc.
* Work with leadership to set annual targets for injury reduction, and drive necessary actions to meet or exceed targets
* Maintain metrics of project safety performance and provide monthly reporting
* Develop and deliver project safety training to project teams in accordance with the Corporate Safety Standards, the OFC Division Safety Program and Projects Safety Program.
* Assess construction contractor companys safety programs for adequacy against internal standards, ensure contractor companies are registered in ISN World with a favorable ranking.
* Attend division / corporate safety meetings and calls representing the department
* Work with project managers and other safety resources to audit job sites and ensure timely corrective action for discrepancies
* Work with Project Managers during project initiation to develop project specific Safety Plans.
* Supervise contracted project safety resources Ensure / lead investigation of work-related injuries in conjunction with supervisors / managers, along with action planning to prevent reoccurrence
* Coordinate reporting, tracking, and trend analysis of workplace injuries when they occur and ensure corporate reporting standards are followed
* Perform analysis and recommend improvements to equipment and processes to improve safety and prevent accidents, ideally drive to consistency across sites
**Travel Requirements:** Significant - 50+%; this position is in an organization that manages industrial construction projects at domestic and international facilities. Travel to each of the projects site will be necessary to establish the project specific safety plan. Extended deployment (9+ months) to a site with a major capital project may be required.
**Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:** Monday - Friday; 40+ hours per week; nights or weekends as project activity requires
**Supervisor/Peers/Customers**: Solid line to Advanced Manufacturing Technology & Deployment Manager and peers with project managers deploying technology around the world. Delivers safe technology deployments worldwide to plant managers
**Required Education:** Minimum BS (MS preferred); Safety Engineering; Systems or Industrial Engineering considered with demonstrated manufacturing experience in Safety Engineering
**Required Years and Area of Experience:**
* Demonstrated manufacturing/industrial construction experiences in developing and deploying Safety Strategy and associated tactical plans to deliver targeted results.
* Desired is experience with a Systems and DMAIC approach.
* 10+years experience.
* Demonstrated manufacturing experience on a global basis.
* Knowledge and experience in Safety Regulatory and Legal requirements and industry direction.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; both global organization and executive presentation skills.
**Required Skills:**
* Extensive knowledge of industrial construction project activities, hazards, and regulations.
* Extensive knowledge of Safety and Health regulations.
* Project management experience.
* Supervisory and Leadership skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communications / presentation skills.
* Computer Skills, Microsoft package.
**Desired Skills:**
* Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
* Work experience in a production facility.
* Good time management and organization skills.
* Basic knowledge of environmental regulations.
* Sharepoint computer skills.
**Soft Skills:**
* Demonstrated leadership skills.
* Motivated team player - ability to work in a team environment.
* Strong people skills.
* Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
