Evaluation: performance will be evaluated by the Business Manager - Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designee and in accordance with WV State Code 18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314, and Summers County Board of Education Policy.

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Business with minimum of 24 hours in Accounting, Applicant will be required to make application for certification through WVDE.

Employment Term: 240 days

Salary: Based on Summers County scale commensurate to educational level and years of experience.

Job Summary: Apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principals to record and report transactions relating to the areas of accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, and other fiscal affairs of the Summers County Board of Education.

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for maintaining current and accurate knowledge of the West Virginia laws and regulations as they relate to the accounting practices and procedures.
  • Must maintain broad knowledge of all governmental funds and individual projects including but not limited to budget, revenue, expenses, encumbrances, and payroll.
  • Coordinate ordering, receiving, and distributing goods
  • Prepare various account reconciliations on a regular basis as well as coordinating annual spring orders
  • Maintain an encumbrance accounting system.
  • Prepare and process payrolls, including deductions, employee leave, and employee assignments.
  • Maintain all necessary earnings, deductions, leave, and employment verification records.
  • Prepare and maintain withholding information, file tax deposits and prepare statements, unemployment compensation reports, and other government wage reports.
  • Provide assistance in analyzing financial reports and data
  • Assist with preparing schedules for internal and external audits.
  • Assist in budget preparation.
  • Assist in preparing Annual Financial Statements.
  • Assist with bank statement reconciliations, cash receipts, and bank deposits.
  • Recommend changes and improvements to accounting functions.
  • Internally audit accounts as deemed necessary. This may include individual school accounts.
  • Monitor expenditures and report any unusual expenses to the Treasurer.
  • Maintain the school system's retirement plan in accordance with state law.
  • Maintain and reconcile the employee insurance and benefit plans including, but not limited to, PEIA, optical, and dental.
  • Assist with open enrollment and new teacher orientation relating to the benefits plan.
  • Manage the operation and functions of the School Funds Online accounting software and assist schools with accounting problems.
  • Manage the operation and functions of the software and assist personnel in the operation of the system and the interface system with payroll.
  • Maintain professional work habits.
  • Maintain and upgrade professional skills.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned by your Supervisor.
