Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Nursing or licensed by an accredited Nursing School with a minimum of 2 years pertinent experience
- Minimum one year of supervisory experience
- Experience in working with diverse populations and knowledge of diverse cultural needs
- Basic understanding of medical and psychosocial causes relevant to chemical dependent persons
- Ability to work with and educate non-medical staff
- Knowledge of chemical dependency and the recovery process
- Ensure new residential and halfway house clients receive physical examination within one week of admission per licensing standards; ensure OP clients complete medical questionnaire
- Complete initial residential/HWH client medical history assessments to include the provision of phlebotomy services in the collection of admission blood work
- Perform comprehensive physical / nursing assessment for all residential and halfway house clients
- Provide health teaching, health counseling and provision of care supportive to restorative of life and well-being to all clients
- Schedule and/or assist residential/HWH medical and dental appointments and ensure medical consultations are written so clients can present at their medical/dental appointments
- Coordinate all client medical services external to residential programs
- Make referrals for clients needing further assessment or management of episodic and/or chronic health problems and ensure follow up care
- Maintain medical records for clients
- Coordinate clients medical needs and significant diagnoses and treatment with clients primary therapist and facility psychiatrist
- Maintain standard precautions among staff and residents
- Administer and monitor for accuracy the administration of medication
- Handle sick call each day at pre-determined times and when necessary
- Provide in-service education classes to clients and/or one on one
Supervisory and Administrative Tasks:
- Provide supervision to LPN, Medical Assistant and Shift Supervisor
- Participate in weekly management meetings with team
- Be available for medical on call coverage
- Transcribe Medication Administration Records (MARs) every month
- Serve as liaison to Laboratory for all drug screens and lab work
- Ensure all medical related significant incidents are properly reported to all appropriate agencies and follow-up investigations are completed
- Obtain prior approval from program director for all uninsured prescriptions
- Procure needed medical supplies as approved through the use of Purchase Request Forms (PRF) for Noble and McKesson Medical Supplies
- Enhance, update, and remain current with educational advances within discipline & field
- Coordinate client prescriptions with program Pharmacy
- Remove old prescriptions and return to program Pharmacy
- Liaison to Medical Director (psychiatrist) including creation of the weekly client schedule and processing of all oral and written orders
- Liaison to medical vendors, including resolution of billing matters, review of medical invoices for discrepancy in medical coverage prior to submitting PRF for payment
- Other duties assigned by program director
Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Protocol Responsibilities:
- Assist program director in the development and implementation of 715 Regulations for Narcotic Treatment Program (NTP)
- Ensure prior authorizations are completed
- Ensure proper storage, administration, documentation and disposal of narcotics
- Ensure monthly inventory is completed and documented, per 715 State Regulations
- Commensurate with education and experience
