Senior Director, Project Accounting and Finance

We are currently hiring a Senior Director, Project Accounting and Finance to join our team This is a newly created position where you will have the opportunity to work with senior leadership to build and develop a team and function for Project Accounting and Finance, who will ensure the financial health of projects. You will play a critical role in the financial success of our clinical research trials by overseeing the team and operations responsible for project-related reconciliations, including revenue recognition, forecasts, invoicing oversight, and variance analysis with respect to profitability on Rho’s portfolio of projects. You’ll also work as a strong business partner, collaborating with many of Rho’s operational functions, guiding and advising both internal and client conversations regarding project financial status, governance, and reporting. This position will lead a team of financial professionals who will be a part of project teams and will be the financial expert speaking with clients throughout the duration of the project.

Responsibilities Lead the financial oversight of study projects, including:

Designing a set of reporting tools and providing analysis to allow project teams to assess the financial health and milestones of the project for internal and client discussion.

Adoption of standard reporting tools to meet specific client requirements for reporting and analysis.

Effective guidance to project leaders and team management regarding potential change in statement of work requiring revised budgets.

Building and supporting a team of project financial analysts who will support projects and clients throughout the project life cycle.

Leading analysis for revenue recognition, profitability, vendor management, forecasted versus actual hours, project performance variances and project closeout.

Ensuring timely reporting of revenue and billing deliverables by Project Managers.

Timely reporting of requirements for Rho’s projects, including unsigned contract opportunities, risk metrics, backlog, book-to-bill and other ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis.

Ensuring financial adjustments and changes in scope are properly flagged, documented, reviewed and approved; Identification, advisement and recommendations on unique issues during analysis review meetings

Making sure project budgets are entered, reviewed and reconciled accurately against contracted values, including the recording of payment schedule into financial management system.

Ensuring project level actual versus budget/forecast variance analyses are prepared and communicated / distributed for analyzing results.

Conducting financial risk assessments.

Participation in the selection of applications and tools to enhance functional requirements.

Supporting the cash flow process throughout the life cycle of the project

Meeting all established deadlines for revenue and backlog submittals,

Management of monthly forecasting of financial results (backlog)

Coordinating with Proposals & Contracts, providing financial leadership and overflow assistance as needed.

Completion of accurate financial records are maintained in accordance with GAAP.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance; MBA a plus

At least 10 years’ financial analysis or project finance experience with increasing responsibility required, including 4+ years of financial analysis leadership with CRO or Pharmaceutical Company providing financial oversight and variance analysis on clinical trials.

High expertise in developing reporting and analysis systems for project performance, evaluating profit and loss, and managing financial requirements against project contracts, highlighting financial status to project teams with recommendations for improvement as needed.

Strong expertise in revenue recognition, variance analysis, unbilled/unearned and cash flow management, and backlog forecasting.

Proficiency in EAC revenue methodology and performing monthly variance analyses at the project level.

Proficiency in technical accounting skills and GAAP principles.

Familiarity with ASC 606 and IFRS revenue recognition standards

Good proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and with accounting software packages, preferably Oracle NetSuite.

Good knowledge of data query and visualization tool, preferably Spotfire or Power BI

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills – is viewed as a resource by Project Teams and Sponsors.

Strong Communicator: Demonstrate written, verbal and presentation skills to help showcase the successes of your work and Rho’s. Fluency in both English and local languages.
