JOB SUMMARY
  • The Assistant Controller ensures the accuracy of all journal entries, assets, liabilities and reconciliations required for the reporting of results of operations for all Buckeye Broadband companies.
  • The Assistant Controller oversees the compilation and analysis of data for all financial reports; reviews and approves account reconciliations; prepares and/or oversees accurate completion of all audit work papers; ensures timely completion of all accounting functions required to meet financial statement and external audit deadlines; reviews payroll entries and variances; and serves as back-up for critical daily and monthly tasks assigned to the Controller.
  • The Assistant Controller reports to the Controller.
  • Direct reports include Senior Accountants, Staff Accountants and Financial Analysts.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The Assistant Controller is responsible for:
  • Preparation and timely delivery of month-end financial statements.
  • Preliminary analysis and review of variance analyses prepared by the accounting team for month-end financial statements and reports, including balance sheet reviews and capital spend analysis.
  • Serving as the primary interface with Department Heads to develop financial reports and analysis to assist in decision-making.
  • Preparation and/or oversight of audit work papers to meet external audit requirements.
  • Gathering, compiling, organizing, consolidating, analyzing and interpreting data and documentation relevant to financial information.
  • Preparing detailed reports and presentations for review by all levels of management.
  • Contributing to the preparation of year end audit work papers.
  • Setting performance standards and expectations for direct reports including providing training and coaching as needed.
  • Assisting co-workers in the performance of their jobs by answering questions and providing information as needed to help them understand general accounting principles.
  • Assisting in the development of procedures and practices within the department.
  • Providing back-up for critical daily and month-end tasks assigned to the Controller.
  • Adhering to Company policies and procedures, including the EEO and safety guidelines, at all times.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting - Required
  • Certified Public Accountant license - Preferred
  • 5 years previous financial experience (including general ledger experience) - Required
  • Supervisory experience - Required
  • Microsoft Excel experience - Required
  • Sage X3 experience - Preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Walking, standing, lifting up to 30 pounds (storage boxes), stooping (in and out of file cabinets), climbing, (stairs), sitting, hearing, talking, vision (to work with PC, various reports, etc.), use of hands and fingers for 10 key and keyboarding.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • The Assistant Controller position is a full-time salaried exempt position.
  • Regular working hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, with additional time as needed in order to ensure the proper operation of the department and fulfillment of job responsibilities.
  • The Assistant Controller reports to work at 2700 Oregon Rd, Northwood, OH. The Assistant Controller may be required to travel to the Erie office in Sandusky, OH and to the MaxxSouth office in Oxford, MS on occasion.
  • The Assistant Controller is subject to periodic driving record checks and will be required to give written approval upon request.
