Job Summary The Plant Manager directs all Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activities. The Plant Manager ensures that an adequate supply of manpower, tools, equipment, and spare parts is available at all times to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the plant. The Plant Manager certifies that the plant complies with applicable safety, environmental, and power-generating requirements. As a Plant Manager, you will have the autonomy to determine your own practices and procedures, contribute to the development of new concepts, and perform duties independently with only general directions given. Your decisions, made within policy constraints, will be crucial in managing new and varied work situations, which are extremely complex in nature. The Plant Manager is accountable for the plant's long-range planning. The Plant Manager must effectively communicate information to the Vice President, Power Plant Operations/Technical Services, Plant Supervisors, and client representatives relative to the overall plant operations. The Plant Manager must perform duties and ensure all plant personnel are performing duties in a safe manner, resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits at all times, and in compliance with the applicable NERC Standards. The Plant Manager must perform duties and ensure all plant personnel are performing duties in such a way as to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio. All employees are responsible to both the customer and their co-workers for doing the job right the first time and ensuring the customer's needs are met. Job Functions - The Plant Manager is the single point of contact between IHI Power Services Corporation and the Owner on all matters concerning the operation and maintenance of the plant. The plant manager cooperates with other IHI Power Services Corporation division managers as needed. The Plant Manager supervises all site staff and is responsible for all contract work performed on behalf of the site (remote/on-site). - Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities to plant personnel and ensure that the morale and motivation of plant personnel are consistently maintained at a high level. - Administration and compliance with plant Safety, Operations, NERC, Maintenance, Administrative, Training, Chemistry, and Environmental QNQC programs and ensure the plant's safe, efficient, and reliable operation. - Oversee the preparation of required client and utility reports, budgets, environmental compliance reports, etc. - Responsible for ensuring that all plant personnel and objectives align with client requirements. - Manage and oversee the performance of planned and unplanned plant outages. - Implement training and qualification programs to ensure that plant personnel are fully qualified to operate and maintain the facility and that all plant personnel understand and follow plant procedures. - Conduct periodic reviews of plant policies and procedures to reflect current plant operating requirements. - Direct the sourcing, screening, and hiring of new or replacement personnel as needed. - Verify that the affected operation and maintenance personnel's certification status is current. - Develop a succession plan for key positions. - The statements in this job description are not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned, and requirements may vary occasionally. Education and Experience An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. - Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent required. - 10+ years of power plant or similar experience required. - At least 3 years of experience supervising technical, supervisory, and administrative personnel. - Strong leadership and motivational skills are required. - Must have 3-5 years in Gas Turbine experience or as a Power Plant Manager in another generation source. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities may be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those commonly associated with this position. - Must possess 1st Class Engineers license in the State of Massachusetts - Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communication skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools. - Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and have the ability to work without direct supervision. - Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery. - Work within and ensure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures. - Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound. - Basic data entry/computer skills. - Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all business challenges. Work Environment Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. - Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, high voltage protective equipment, and other equipment must be worn to perform some duties. - Work with hazardous materials may be required. - Requires extended working hours, varied shifts, or 12-hour shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. On call status (day and night) may be required. - Includes working indoors and outdoors. Physical Abilities that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
