Additionally, this role will support the integration of new and existing systems onto airborne, shipborne, and ground vehicles. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design of new products and test hardware, as well as the improvement of existing products. The engineer will utilize their mechanical engineering expertise during the proposal and concept evaluation, product development, production, and qualification testing phases of new product design. The engineer will create design solutions that meet product requirements using 3-D CAD modeling software and will be hands-on supporting production, integration, and testing. The engineer will develop solutions which leverage commercial off the shelf (COTS) products paired with custom hardware. The engineer must be capable of researching and distilling information from vendors and collating information. The engineer shall perform design reviews, equipment integration, profiling, and testing. The engineer will provide leadership on mechanical issues to the project team, working closely with systems, electrical, and test engineers. In addition to their technical skills, the ideal candidate leverages strong verbal and written communication to adapt to a wide variety of high-pressure situations while maintaining professionalism and courtesy. We are looking for an engineer that enjoys working on-location, embraces challenges, and has a passion to support our customers and international allies. Required Skills: Ability to work onsite at our Indianapolis, Indiana facility with an Integrated Product Team being hands on with hardware – not afraid to use tools, assemble prototypes, etc. A minimum of 15 years professional work experience required. Experience in the design, integration, or testing of mechanical components and assemblies. Competent using 3-D CAD Modeling Tools (CREO preferred). Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, (ASME Y14.5 standards). Strong planning and organizational skills with ability to be adaptable to changing priorities and assignments. Experience capturing key characteristics & requirements for systems. Performing trade studies. Must be a self-starter, a quick learner, and be able to function in a dynamic environment, and have good time management skills. Must have strong teaming skills, and good communication skills. Expect at one or more of Aircraft Structures Design, Ground Structures Design, Electronics Packaging, or Platform Integration. Engineering Documentation Practices: Proficient to Expert. Desired Skills: Design, integration, or test experience/understanding of any combination. Airborne podded systems. Airborne armament equipment or alternate mission equipment. Cockpit displays. Avionics. Radar Systems. Mobile Ground Systems. Ground Vehicle Structures. Custom/COTS Electronics including wires, relays, and analog electronics. Design for human factors / safety · Prototyping and agile methodology (quick turn solutions). Understanding manufacturing / fabrication of non-exotic materials. Understanding of structural design. CREO skills or ability to come up to speed quickly. Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) degree program.
