Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Project Accountant to lead the financial management of our civil construction projects. The Senior Project Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of multiple projects, providing strategic guidance, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and industry regulations. This role requires a strong understanding of project accounting principles, cost management techniques, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Planning and Analysis:
- Lead the development of project budgets, forecasts, and financial plans in collaboration with project managers and senior leadership.
- Conduct comprehensive financial analysis to assess project performance, identify trends, and mitigate risks.
- Provide strategic recommendations to optimize project profitability and resource utilization.
2. Cost Management:
- Establish and maintain robust cost control processes to monitor project expenses and ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
- Review and approve project-related invoices, change orders, and subcontractor agreements.
- Implement cost-saving initiatives and recommend strategies to improve project cost efficiency.
3. Project Accounting:
- Oversee the preparation and maintenance of accurate project accounting records, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and industry standards.
- Coordinate with project teams to allocate costs to appropriate cost centers and accounts accurately.
- Manage the reconciliation of project-related accounts and resolve discrepancies as needed.
4. Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and stakeholders, highlighting key insights and variances.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and support external audits as required.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of project financials in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
5. Contract Management:
- Review project contracts to ensure alignment with financial objectives and mitigate contractual risks.
- Monitor contract terms and conditions related to billing, payments, and change orders, and provide guidance to project teams as needed.
- Collaborate with legal and procurement teams to resolve contractual issues and disputes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 7years of progressive experience in project accounting or financial management, with a focus on the civil construction industry.
- Proficiency in accounting software (SAGE) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of project management principles, cost accounting standards, and financial analysis techniques.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across functional teams.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and integrity in financial reporting and analysis.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as standing, lifting, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, and handling of materials, equipment, and tools.
- Lifts, pushes, pulls, and carries heavy objects, machinery, and tools.
- Works around vehicles and machinery with moving parts.
- Exposed to exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel.
- May be exposed to harsh weather conditions.
