POSITION SCOPE
Provide leadership and direction in developing, managing, coordinating, and implementing effective Health and Safety programs and processes for the three (3) mills on our Baileyville site.
This is accomplished by -
o Effectively leading the Health and Safety Team.
o Providing guidance to the operating and maintenance departments to ensure compliance with all company and regulatory standards.
o Championing and leading project planning and specific projects to deliver continuous improvements in mill safety and health performance.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead project management teams in developing site specific safety programs and activities.
Training, monitoring, and implementing policies and procedures that help prevent injury or harm to workers and property.
Identify training needs, conduct safety orientations and training programs.
Oversee documentation, tracking, and analysis of all safety, injury, and hazard statistics, trend analyses, and OSHA reports.
Provide analysis for the development of OSH compliance protocols, policies, and guidance.
Conduct work safety audits, identify areas where safety improvements are needed, implement corrective actions.
Investigate accidents or incidents to determine the root cause and recommend corrective actions.
Monitor and review contractor activities for safety concerns.
Enforce practical, effective safety policies for workers to follow with a goal of zero incidents.
Communicates with all employees and assists in building a culture of constant vigilance and improvement of the work environment with regard to safety.
Ensure maintenance and inspection of safety equipment protective wear.
Accompany safety, health, insurance, and OSHA personnel on work-site tours.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and departments to develop and implement safety improvement initiatives.
Develop site safety plans and job hazard analysis for employees to follow.
SKILLS
Knowledge of OSHA standards, ANSI, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures.
Need to have strong negotiating and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively with all groups of people, including unionized work force.
Candidate needs to have strong customer service and interpersonal skills that include oral and written communication.
o Does include telephone communications, responding quickly to emails and voice mails, and composing written documentation used in reports and proposals.
Desired computer skills are Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
Self-directed and able to multi-task efficiently under demanding circumstances
Organized, pays attention to detail, and able to manage numerous documents.
Will need to have experience in both Process Safety Management (PSM) experience, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001.
EDUCATION
Bachelor of Science degree desired, with at least 5 years in the Health and Safety field is acceptable.
However, 5-10 years of work experience in safety, industrial, occupational health, or equivalent is acceptable.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Occasional travel to customers and suppliers as needed.
The company will provide training regarding union contracts, and various reporting software.
Will provide training to make sure the candidate is trained in Reliability Excellence initiatives such as work requests regarding the CMMS system.
Will also provide training on the basic understanding of the processes that can be found in the various departments in the mill.
This position will report to the Regional Vice President.
