Anticipated start date August 12, 2024 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES The IT Technician I installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and upgrades computer hardware, software, wireless computer networks, peripheral equipment, and district-wide electronic mail systems; makes recommendations regarding hardware and software acquisitions; prepares documentation and provides user assistance to district staff; manages inventory and maintains asset database information; and performs related work as required. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in the classification, however, employees may perform other related duties not listed and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee. Installs, configures, and upgrades operating systems and software, using standard business and administrative packages; may modify specific applications. Installs, assembles and configures computers, monitors, network infrastructure and peripherals such as printers, scanners, security cameras, and related hardware; pulls cables and rewires or directs the rewiring of cables as required for new installations and office reconfiguration. Troubleshoots problems with systems, including troubleshooting hardware and software, e-mail, network, and peripheral equipment problems; makes repairs and corrections where required. Works with hardware and software manufacturers’ support in handling and if necessary escalating warranty repair and parts replacement issues. Acts as a technical resource in assisting users to resolve problems with equipment and data. Deploys hardware and software recommendations including helping users assess needs for equipment and services. Complete required paperwork as needed such as warranty registration and maintain the inventory database application to ensure that technology asset records are up to date. Performs other related duties as assigned. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Must have professional experience with computer hardware, software and peripherals such as central processing units, monitors, cables, network systems, printers, plotters and modems; Knowledge of current technology related to applications, networks and telecommunications and the equipment and software required to maximize system support. Experience with procedures for installing, configuring, upgrading, troubleshooting and repairing applicable software, hardware and peripherals; Knowledge of the principles, practices, hardware and software related to the establishment and maintenance of district LAN’s; Troubleshooting and solving hardware and software problems; Minimum Qualifications Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution in computer science or related field. Knowledge and ability to develop software standards and procedures. Experience with functional and technical specifications. The ability to work with diverse groups and students. Desirable Qualifications Associate Degree in Computer Science or a related field and 6 months of related experience. Experience with general office duties and reception. Customer service experience. Personal Work independently and exercise discretion in decision-making. Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Flexible in assuming other assignments as the need arises. Possess the sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Willing to accept other duties as assigned. Knowledge of Meaning and usage of common technological terms. Data input practices and procedures. Microsoft Office Suite programs; Excel, Word, and Office. E-mail and internet browsers. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. Organization and prioritization skills. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The salary range for the position is a Range 25 on the Classified Salary Schedule with a range of $28.55-$33.05 per hour. This is a full-time, 12-month position. West Kern Community College District offers a comprehensive fringe benefits program that includes District paid medical, dental and vision coverage for all employees and their dependents, as well as a generous vacation plan. Employees are eligible for membership in either CalPERS or CalSTRS retirement systems. HOURS & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 40 hours per week, 12 months per year.
