JOB SUMMARY:The Sterile Processing Department is seeking a full-time Sterile Processing Technician. Professional candidate coordinates and collaborates the overall cleaning, decontamination, assembly, sterilizing and dispensing of reusable surgical instruments, equipment and supplies needed for daily surgical procedures, bedside procedures, dental instruments, and other related departments.PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:Responsible for control of all parts of the sterilization process:Decontamination;Prep, pack, sterilize;Documentation of sterilization; andSterile storage including remediation of equipment failures and hazards.Provide integrity and sterility of products and services for the customers and staff.Work in conjunction with the clinics and staff to provide timely sterile products.Maintain consistency and continuous workflow between clinics and SPDOperate and maintain Steris machines; keep records of loads completed, items of loads and maintain procedures performed.Operate and maintain decontamination equipmentOperate and maintain all machines in the process and keeping records of loads completed, items in loads, and maintenance procedures performed.Monitor and maintain appropriate records to remain compliant with applicable regulatory agencies, as well as reporting occurrences to supervisors.Maintain strong working/collaborative relationship with other departments to ensure flow and continuity of services.Adhere to annual education requirements as outlined for Swope Health Services Associates.Ordering of proper supplies and equipment (upon approval) to complete the job.Perform other duties as assigned.PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Complete annual education requirementsMaintain patient confidentiality at all timesWear identification while on dutyMaintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.Communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the organizationParticipate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activitiesAttend regular staff meetings and in-services.QUALIFICATION:High School Diploma or equivalentCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or must be obtained within (60) days of hire.One year of Central Service or Sterile Processing experience is strongly preferredCentral Service Technician Certification preferredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:Strong organizational and interpersonal skillsAbility to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situationsAbility to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitudeAbility to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of workAbility to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal informationAbility to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely mannerAbility to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingAbility to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional mannerPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and ENVIRIONMENTAL CONDITIONS:Physically demanding, high-stress environmentExposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motionsPushing and pulling heavy objectsFull range of body motion including handling and lifting patientsManual and finger dexterityHand and eye coordinationStanding and walking for extensive periods of timeLifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs.Working under stressful conditionsMust have a flexible work scheduleWorking with controlled steam, air, and hot waterUsage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for safety
