Adheres to the professional standards of the American Society of Clinical Pathology. Gouverneur Hospital is certified for 25 beds and services include inpatient detox, substance use disorder rehabilitation, emergency care, imaging and EKG's, physical therapy, and respiratory therapy.STATUS: Full TimeLOCATION: Massena HospitalDEPARTMENT: Laboratory ServicesSCHEDULE: 8 Hour, Variable ShiftsATTRIBUTESPhlebotomy CertificationStrong customer service skillsTeam playerRESPONSIBILITIESApplying knowledge of human anatomy, aseptic and sterile techniques and phlebotomy equipment, performs blood collection procedures by venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques, selecting the phlebotomy site taking into consideration the condition of the patient and site, age group and the type of test requested by the health care provider. Perform finger or heel sticks for micro-samples of capillary blood on neonates to adults as required.Selects proper vacutainer tubes for testing using various sized needles, syringes, and or butterfly collection devices in order to collect appropriate specimens for testing.Insures that all specimens are properly, accurately and completely labeled, and that the proper documentation initiating testing is submitted with all required documentation. Contacts the appropriate patient care unit, physician office or outpatient clinic when specimens are incorrectly identified or submitted, obtaining additional needed information and/or patient information in order to insure proper testing and interpretive data is received.Performs duties and responsibilities related to the handling and transport of laboratory specimens, including receiving and accessioning specimens from inpatient and outpatient locations, conducting order entry in the lab information system, accessioning specimens, transporting specimens from the point of collection to the lab for processing.At all times, provides service excellence and service recovery in the delivery of services to patients and in interaction with internal and external partners.UNION:CSEA - Civil Service Employees Association (MH)Note: Not all per diem roles are union eligibleEDUCATION:LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS: PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements. PAY RANGE:$16.38 - $21.83The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
