Job purpose

The Fires and Effects Specialist will work aboard MCB Quantico supporting the MAGTF Staff Training Program's "MAGTF Operations Center Training Team" (MOCTT). This position is responsible for providing subject matter expertise for Fires, Targeting, and Effects at the Marine Expeditionary Force level. This person will serve as the MOCTT's Fires SME participating in a variety of training exercises across all three USMC MEFs to prepare the staffs to command and control a MAGTF in a joint, complex, multi-domain environment.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Provides support to training audience in classrooms, field training and exercise execution in the operation, utilization, and integration of joint and service specific fires and targeting systems and processes within the Operations Center.
  • Assist MOCTT lead and MOCTT COC Specialist and Analyst in the development of the training packages.
  • Participate in exercise life cycle events as necessary.
  • Develop academic, training, and course materials to support training events.
  • Facilitate formal and informal academic and watch stander training to support the training audience.
  • Provide input to exercise and training assessments, running summaries, and after-action reports.
  • Analyze data from all training and exercise After Action Reports, Quick Looks, or exercise and training event summaries to assess training effectiveness.
  • Maintain SME and cognizance of updated doctrine, operational techniques, tactics, and procedures of systems employed and training methodologies for assigned areas.
  • Maintain awareness of curriculum and doctrinal developments and offer recommendations for change based off observations and exercise feedback.
Qualifications
  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Windows and MS Teams and Office.
  • Possess detailed and functional knowledge of military Fires systems employment, integration and TTPs in support of Marine Corps, DoD Joint/Combined, combat operations and training exercises.
Education
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Graduate of an Intermediate Level School such as Command and Staff College, Naval War College, or the Armed Forces Staff College preferred.
  • Attended the FSCC course.
  • Attended the Joint Targeting Staff Course
Military Operational Experience:
  • Operational level staff experience (Joint Task Force/MEF/MSC/TG/TF in planning, development, and execution of FECC/FSCC processes and procedures.
  • Operational level experience/understanding of the integration and employment of SAP/STO
  • Experience/understanding of dynamic and deliberate killwebs.
  • Experience/understanding of the Joint Targeting Process.
  • Experience/understanding of integrating all WFF on a watch floor.
  • Experience/understanding of the employment of kinetic and non-kinetic effects
  • Minimum three years demonstrated knowledge of military doctrine, tactics, and command relationships at the operational command level with operational force employment experience. Direct participation in real world operations is desired.
  • Minimum two years' experience working with fires command and control planning and execution systems.

  • Secret eligible upon hire. Potential for Top Secret/TSI upgrade
