Responsibilities:

Hamilton Company is looking for a CNC/CMM Programmer to join the manufacturing team. They will perform a variety of tasks associated with programming for new and existing products. These products are manufactured on a variety of CNC machines including Swiss lathes, horizontal, vertical and 5 axis machine centers. These products are inspected using Renishaw, Brown and Sharpe, and Wenzel CMMs.

Employee responsibilities and duties:

  • Accountable for regular and consistent attendance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities.
  • Adequate and timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Daily communication and documentation using Microsoft Office products.
  • Maintain area and equipment cleanliness/organization.
  • Report problems to Supervisor.


CNC Programmer responsibilities and duties:

  • Create programs to ensure safe clearance movements around work pieces and machine components
  • Operate machine controls in a safe consistent manner.
  • Complete daily documentation regarding production orders, program completions, tooling lists and set up instructions.
  • Interface with supervisor and/or area lead regarding troubleshooting support, edits and optimization.
  • Choose proper tooling, feeds and speeds, tool holders, and probes required for various materials and part geometry.
  • Demonstrate understanding of when to utilize high efficiency practices and advanced tool paths.
  • Perform initial machine set ups and program prove outs.
  • Perform in process inspection using manual inspection equipment.
  • Understand inspection intent.
  • Create programs for parts with geometry or tolerances that exceed the capabilities of manual inspection equipment.
  • Create work instructions for program set ups and machine use.
  • Standardize and improve existing CMM processes.
  • Develop new inspection processes/programs in 3 and 5 axis using Renishaw software.
  • Develop and/or design of CMM part fixtures.
  • Understand and communicate design intent with engineers.
  • Create work instructions for programs/CMM use.

  • Must demonstrate proficient computer literacy.
  • Must be adaptable to changing work environment, competing demands and able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Must demonstrate excellent troubleshooting techniques and critical thinking skills.
  • Competent in maintaining databases or archives of programs, operation sheets, tooling and work instructions.
  • Able to understand and translate G&M machine code
  • Familiar with individual CNC/CMM machine safety features/dangers as they relate to production and operator usage.
  • Able to read drawings and specifications with a proficient understanding of GD&T.
  • Knowledgeable of manufacturing practices for various materials.
  • Proficient with CAM and CAD software.
  • Knowledgeable of various CNC tool holder types.
  • Able to choose proper tooling and operation sequences dependent on required
  • tolerances.
  • Knowledgeable of how various materials and conditions affect metrology.
  • Demonstrate competence in efficient CNC/CMM programming techniques
  • Knowledgeable of various CMM probe and stylus types.
  • Familiar with ISO and LEAN manufacturing practices.

Education/Experience:
  • Must have High School diploma or GED.
  • Must have 3-5 years of experience with various types of machining and manufacturing.
  • Technical certificate or program completion in CNC machining or CNC/CMM programming.
