Your Job Georgia-Pacific's Strategic Sourcing & Procurement ("SS&P") organization has an immediate opening in Gypsum division for a Buyer with both strategic and tactical purchasing and inventory experience. This role is based out of our brand-new gypsum facility in Sweetwater, TX with buying responsibilities for the Sweetwater Complex (East and West Plant). Being a part of our Strategic Sourcing & Procurement (SS&P) organization, this role reports to the Area Purchasing Manager. As a Buyer, your role is pivotal in ensuring the profitable execution of purchasing and inventory strategies. You will work closely with a diverse group of stakeholders and third parties to cultivate relationships, executing orders, developing site processes, and assist with overseeing accounts payable. Our ideal candidate is self-directed, works with a high sense of urgency, and possesses the ability to solve problems and collaborate with others to meet the needs of the business.
This role will sit onsite at our facility in Sweetwater, TX (East Plant).
Our Team
Georgia-Pacific's Strategic Sourcing & Procurement (SS&P) organization is responsible for the strategic category management, sourcing and procurement of the critical supplies and materials that support our facilities. The SS&P organization partners with our business partners and leverages best practices to uniquely position the team to improve decision making capabilities and capture significant savings and efficiency opportunities.
What You Will Do
- Ensure adherence to all safety, environmental and purchasing policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Utilize company's purchasing system to process purchase orders from requisitions.
- Confirm the contractual document accurately reflects the terms and conditions of purchase, including payment terms, freight terms, incoterms, and other key commercial terms.
- Issue requests for quotations, analyze and evaluate quotes, negotiate price and terms, and exercise independent judgment to select suppliers based on lowest total cost of ownership.
- Remain knowledgeable of company's strategic supply agreements and utilizes these to maximize value.
- Collaborate with internal requestors to understand requirements (e.g., specifications, scopes of work, performance, and timing requirements)
- Demonstrate a high level of customer focus and sense of urgency.
- Use strong verbal and written communication skills to solve problems and provide status updates to customers and suppliers (e.g., commitment dates)
- Analyze the root causes of accounts payable exceptions; resolve and prevent going forward.
- Initiate changes to improve the effectiveness of the purchasing process.
- Manage time to accomplish goals and prioritize a variety of tasks.
- Proactively collaborate and partner with key stakeholders, including Operations, Reliability, Maintenance, and Category Buyer, Sourcing and Inventory Management teams.
- Coach, mentor, and influence without decision rights
- Utilize critical thinking skills to identify, analyze, and execute on opportunities to streamline processes and achieve the lowest total cost of ownership on projects, storeroom inventory, and other purchases
- Working with requestors to understand requirements, specifications, and timing, conducting competitive bidding process, including soliciting RFIs/RFPs and robust bid analysis & recommendations
- At least three years of relevant storeroom, supply chain, inventory management, and procurement experience
- Experience in mentoring peers/employees
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Excel, Teams, etc.
- Inventory or storeroom management experience, including experience with an inventory management computer system
- Experience using data analytics tools and interpreting data for decision making
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain and/or Inventory Management
- Experience in a manufacturing, military, warehouse or other relevant industrial environment
- Demonstrated experience in driving procurement and inventory transformation and implementing changes
- Demonstrated experience in partnering with key internal stakeholders and leading cross functional teams in a matrixed environment
