Transportation Geotechnical Business Class Leader HDR is seeking a Geotechnical Business Class Lead for national engagement in deep foundation design and construction, and for developing a cohesive south-east US geotechnical community of practice to align technical approaches with innovative, constructable solutions. The lead will represent HDR geotechnical engineering to national and regional clients and clearly communicate geotechnical capabilities to aid in procurement of work. Build relationships within HDR business groups to develop technical expertise, elevate quality, and support strategic and profitable growth. This position includes identifying, and hiring, appropriate geotechnical staff to support HDRs strategic direction and emerging markets. Primary Responsibilities Provide leadership of HDRs geotechnical practice to promote cohesive technical excellence across programs, support delivery of innovative services, and mitigate risks for HDR and clients. Partner with HDR business groups (Transportation, Water, Resources, Building Engineering Services, Architecture and Federal) to develop an impactful geotechnical practice. Coordinate, monitor, and improve technical competencies of geotechnical staff in deep foundation design and construction to meet client needs and market drivers, guided by Geotechnical business class strategies. Engage alternate delivery projects to provide deep foundation design and construction expertise, including project approach and resource reviews for optimal team arrangement. Select, train, mentor and manage geotechnical personnel. Promote the geotechnical practice and establish partnerships to advance innovative concepts and mitigate risks for HDR and clients. Contribute to HDRs geotechnical practice and professional discipline groups, project teams, and activities to continually improve standards and practices, and implement QA/QC reviews. Participate in geotechnical strategic planning and implementation. Ensure geotechnical work is planned, organized, controlled, and evaluated through proactive project management. Drive process refinement to increase technical competence, efficiency of design, and quality of product. Function as project manager or geotechnical task lead and take responsibility for production on projects. Develop marketing plans and proposals, and participate in interviews while representing HDR to clients and during pursuit-related work. Work proactively with HDR geotechnical services director to align strategies and drive the geotechnical community of practice. Facilitate national training programs by maintaining an NHI certified instructor credential and participating in DOT training deployment. Qualifications Preferred Qualifications Active, or the ability to obtain within 6 months, PE registration in AL, FL, MS, SC, and TN. Proficient with geotechnical aspects of deep foundation construction and construction claim mitigation. Master of Science or higher in Engineering (Geotechnical/Geologic) or equivalent experience. 15+ years of progressive experience leading geotechnical design efforts for public and private clients. Experience completing geotechnical investigations and analyses for foundations, embankments, slopes, excavation support and retaining structures for varied project types, including transportation clients. Broad knowledge of rock and soil mechanics to understand technical elements and bring advanced concept solutions. Experience using geotechnical engineering software to analyze static, dynamic, and seismic aspects of foundation design, including numerical modeling. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a closely related field. 10+ years of related experience. Professional engineering registration and related technical experience. Experience in development and management of diverse teams. Ability to work with regional directors, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers on business class efforts.
