LOCATION Westerville, OH **Description**
The Consumables Buyer with DesignPac, a division of 1-800-Flowers.com, Inc., is responsible for the purchasing of food products for DesignPac and 1-800-Baskets.com gift basket brands, as well as for the Simply Chocolate brand. The individual in this role reports to the Director of Purchasing at DesignPac. This Buyer is a highly cross-functional position who provides partnership & support to departments such as Product Development, Logistics, Sales and Operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
* Conduct Vendor meetings
* Call meetings with Production Designers and Sales to review new products for use in the design room
* Meet with Production Designers to review development strategies
* Work with Director of Purchasing to maintain private label spreadsheet
* Work with Art Dept., Sales, and Vendor for artwork approvals
* Attend Sold Gift Reviews
* Negotiate terms and conditions of Purchase Orders
* Work with Suppliers to negotiate use of co-branded artwork
* Complete hand-written P.O. form for entry into MRP system
* Enter accurate prices into cost system
* Review nutritional/ingredient statements on private label artwork
* Attend production meetings and be prepared to provide up-to-date delivery information
* Qualify Vendors:
* Factory visits
* Request financial review from DesignPac accounting department
* Sourcing products from China and possibly travel overseas
* Investigate and pursue new consumable products:
* Attend trade shows
* Possible overseas travel
* Internet
* Meetings with suppliers
* Trade magazines/journals
* Shop the market
* Utilize reports from MRP system and Cost System to organize workload
* Generate Purchase Orders
* Negotiate terms and conditions for all orders
* Procure correct samples for Product Development
* Proactively review Product Development needs with Production Designers
* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
* 5 years of experience in buyer/ purchasing role desired
* Purchasing experience in Food Industry preferred
* Proficient Excel user
* Experience with MRP system
* Effective in creating written communication to the suppliers that contains all the information needed in a concise, easily understood manner
