You are a star manager and leader in Construction Materials Engineering and Testing (CoMET) and/or Geotechnical Engineering. You know how to start with a vision, set goals and come up with plans to execute strategies and produce the desired results. You have several years of experience successfully doing this for your employer(s), though you wish you had just a little more room to run the show and display your worth. After all, you enjoy building business relationships and providing outstanding service, so you know you can find clients who will trust you with their projects and related needs.

Well then if this lands like your picture, keep reading, because HVJ is looking for someone like you to achieve the company vision for CoMET and geotechnical engineering services within its West Texas territory. This includes achieving goals for growth, net contribution, stakeholder satisfaction, and strategic initiatives as established during an annual planning process that you participate in, and developing the branch locations that will become a franchised business concern with a high potential for success.

Strategic/Management Work:

1. Manage articulating and achieving the company vision through planning and executing branch communication and development activities.

2. Manage preparing an annual plan addressing branch business development, efficiency, and people planning that includes financial, growth, stakeholder satisfaction, and strategic goals along with detailed operating and capital budgets for approval by the President.

3. Manage forecasting branch performance on annual plan goals and initiatives.

4. Develop and implement actions needed to achieve or exceed plan goals and accomplish planned initiatives.

5. Improve pursuit wins, IDIQ assignments, forecasting accuracy, and hiring effectiveness by managing the following branch activities:

a. Developing market awareness

b. Communicating brand positioning to staff and clients

c. Improving market visibility through active staff participation in association and conference activities

d. Improving staff client relationships with client companies and owner agencies

6. Manage branch activities to identify prime and subconsultant opportunities and pursue wins.

7. Manage process implementation within the branch, assess and improve process implementation and performance, develop process improvement recommendations.

8. Continuously improve your managerial and technical capabilities by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.

Tactical Work:

1. Manage time to achieve an appropriate balance between strategic and tactical activities.

2. Prepare monthly report regarding plans to meet or exceed plan goals and objectives including branch forecasted performance.

3. Improve performance and engagement of direct reports through performance review (PACE) and staff development activities. Develop them to assume increased responsibility within the firm with particular attention to the following:

a. Train and develop Department Managers management skills in Annual Plan Preparation, Forecasting, Department Labor and Overhead Expense Management, and Staff Engagement and Development.

b. Develop Department Managers ability to improve client satisfaction by improving value delivery and commitment management skills within the Department.

c. Develop Department Managers ability to improve department profitability through improving Department staff project management skills.

4. In the case of temporary absence or staff turnover produce results expected of direct reports and/or supervisor as needed.

5. Coordinate staff sharing between departments when appropriate in order to efficiently accomplish the project work of the branch.

6. Perform direct project work and quality reviews of technical reports as needed. Sign and seal technical reports as needed.

7. Approve/sign technical and cost proposals prepared by others.

8. Perform contract reviews and sign contracts on behalf of firm.

9. Approve hiring of branch staff and salary adjustments.

10. Hold Department Managers accountable for providing safe, clean, properly equipped facilities and equipment.
