Engineer - Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical

Smead Manufacturing is looking for an Engineer to help implement manufacturing processes that result in high-quality products. Preferred experience or education in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. This position is a full time 2nd shift position, Monday-Friday 3:00pm to 11:00pm. The Manufacturing Engineer II duties are primarily involved with the development or improvement of equipment, processes and methods, conceptualizing, developing prototypes, testing and perfecting designs. The position requires creativity and ingenuity in applying engineering principles and practices and the ability to draw solutions from experience. Requires proficiency in solving problems in a timely manner. Assignments are broad and work performed under minimal supervision. May guide lower level engineers and technicians. Drive Continuous Improvement and Lean efforts providing technical leadership. Utilize effective strategic A-3’s to document each significant activity and expected outcome. Lead and support the integrations of established production enhancement programs, e.g., CLAIR, SS, VSM and SIO’s to ensure effective internalization. Monitor effectiveness of internal programs and interact with members of the leadership team to identify refinements ensuring attainment of intended results. Provide project leadership and oversight to ensure approved projects are completed on-time and meet intended objectives. Works closely with branch personnel include cost and methods and engineering to confirm understanding of principles and maintain alignment. Support productivity improvement initiatives by promoting best practices. Assimilate and analyze data to evaluate benefits and practicality of potential improvement efforts. Maintain a thorough understanding of current business and production environments by interacting closely with employees at all levels of the organization. Serve as corporate resource in promoting corporate wide internalization of Lean manufacturing principles. Promote open exchange of technical knowledge leading to the efficient implementation of operational improvements. Education/Experience: Engineering degree and 3+ years of experience or Master’s degree and one year of experience 5 years of experience in paper manufacturing environment preferred 5 years involvement in Lean manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives and process optimization Excellent written and verbal communication skills Extremely organized, detail-oriented, analytical, and able to translate data into actionable strategic plans Excellent planning and organizational skills with attention to detail Ability to manage across multiple teams, projects, and priorities efficiently and effectively Communication

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to ensure complete support and understanding.

Ability to set and achieve challenging goals, including the ability to focus personal efforts to achieve key business objectives and improve organizational performance.

Problem Solving

Ability to identify and solve problems using and adjusting tactics as appropriate to the situation.
