Interviews will occur weekly until the position is filled.
Work Schedule:
7:00am-3:00pm Friday-Tuesday
Summary: Committed to creating and preparing quality, healthy vegan lunches as well as preparing food and working during frequent on and off-site catering functions, workshops and special dinners sanctuary-wide for all employees, volunteers, founders and visitors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in all food preparation and handling.
Prepare special meal substitutes when necessary.
Serve all guests during peak lunch period properly; including bussing and pre-bussing tables, refilling drink options when applicable, and keeping dining room area clean.
Interact with visitors, volunteers, and staff in a positive and respectful manner.
Keep buffet, salad bar, and drink area well stocked and clean at all times.
Wash dishes.
Participate in all around cleaning and deep cleaning, completing weekly and monthly chore assignments.
Work on and off-site catering functions when needed.
Be able to operate register properly with no shrinkage during lunch period.
Handle and operate all kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
Comply with all health codes and inspections.
Record temperature of fridges/freezers daily.
Unload food deliveries and stock appropriately.
Must be able to work weekends including Sundays, and some evenings.
Assist other team members with their work
Identify improvement to tasks
Bring any issues immediately to Hospitality Services Manager's attention.
Keep abreast of BFAS current news by checking personal email daily. Basic computer skills required.
Engage in a safe, healthy, and positive work environment.
Other duties as assigned by Hospitality Services Manager.
Skills and Experience:
Education: High School diploma or GED.
Previous related experience preferable but will train the right person.
Outgoing positive personality and communication skills. The ideal person for this job would be a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along well with a wide variety of people.
Attention to detail.
Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
Flexible and enjoys handling a variety of tasks.
Demonstrates personal accountability to ensure that all responsibilities are completed effectively and in a timely manner.
Accurate, appropriate, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills. Strong listening skills.
Basic computer skills required. Must be able to use email and navigate pdf, word, and excel documents. Also need to be able to complete forms, save, and send as attachments to emails.
Able and willing to professionally advocate Best Friends position on issues.
Must be willing to cross-train in housekeeping department.
Attend training sessions when assigned or requested.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to routinely lift 40 pounds.
Must be able to work out of doors in all weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from below freezing to above 100 degrees.
Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including, but not limited to: climbing up and down ladders, lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning and bending.
Must have a valid driver's license and qualify for BFAS insurance.
Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
During the selection process, candidates may be asked to participate in an onsite working interview.
