The Financial Consultant is a member of the MetLife Legal Plans Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team. FP&A is responsible for providing timely financial and operational budgets, earnings forecasts, analysis, and reporting that helps management and other stakeholders better understand and improve our business. This individual will be expected to take a proactive approach on their day-to-day job, spotting trends, identifying opportunity and risk, and ultimately have a can-do, solution-oriented approach and attitude.

The primary focus of this role is financial projections and analysis of Income Statement and Earnings by Source for MetLife Legal Plans, with a large focus on claim utilization and severity. This role will also assist with trends including, but not limited to, revenue, claims utilization and project portfolio financials.

This is a critical role that will lead the monthly financial projection process. The role will interact with partners both within and outside of Finance and will also have direct exposure to Senior Leaders across the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute the annual plan and monthly projection processes for MetLife Legal Plans (MLP) and Metropolitan General Insurance Company (MGIC); includes forecasting premium & fees, attorney fees and all related financial metrics for both GAAP and STAT accounting methods.
  • Analyze actual results and provide explanations of variances from annual plan and projection.
  • Maintain and produce key metric reports including the monthly scorecard, financial summaries and Objective and Key Results (OKR) tracking.
  • Assist in preparation of quarterly financial deliverables including Quarterly Financial Review (QFR) slides and related analysis.
  • Serves as a key resource for financial data and reporting to MetLife Legal Plans business partners.
  • Identify and implement expense reporting process improvements (e.g., automate and simplify existing processes)
  • Perform Ad-hoc analyses that lead to problem solving and business improvement recommendations.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:
  • 5-7 years of FP&A experience (preferably financial projections), including process and/or people management experience
  • Knowledge of US GAAP
  • Experience with General Ledger, PAPA (preferred), Tableau
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting practices, principles, and implications of short- and long-term actions/impact.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, interpersonal, oral, and written communications, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under tight timeframes and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to act with little direction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (Master's degree and/or CPA designation a plus)
