Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

If you have experience providing excellent customer service and engaging programming, then our Library Paraprofessional position may be for you As a Library Paraprofessional for our Gila Bend Library, you will perform library work, basic reader's advisory, reference services, and present programs. In this role, you will link the community to library resources while breathing life into your own story.

This position is with the Gila Bend Library in Gila Bend, AZ - approximately 30-45 minutes from Buckeye, AZ, the westernmost suburb in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

We Require

  • Two years of library experience

  • Associate's degree in Library Science, Education, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Information Management, or a related field

  • A combination of related post-secondary education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements on a year-per-year basis

We Also Value

  • Experience with library-related automation systems or databases

  • Experience creating and implementing programs for youth, teens, and adults

  • Paraprofessional library skills acquired through a specialized educational training program

  • Cash handling experience

Job Contributions

  • Provide exceptional customer service and respond to customer concerns

  • Prepare, implement, and present public programs

  • Assist with school visits, group tours, and community outreach

  • Provide direct service to customers through basic reference and reader's advisory services

  • Assist patrons in the use of computer services including the online catalog, the Internet, and various databases

  • Create reading logs, brochures, signage, posters, bulletin boards, letters, bookmarks, bibliographies, games, promotional displays, and pamphlets

  • Compile and report required statistics

  • Assist with collection development including weeding, shifting, and shelf-read

  • Assist with the placement, training, and scheduling of library volunteers

Working Conditions

  • Library environment on a K-12 campus requiring evening and weekend availability

  • Must complete a background check and fingerprint identification upon hire to secure and maintain an Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card

  • Ability to cover shifts at nearby library branches

  • Ability to push, stoop, kneel, walk, and lift up to 20 pounds floor-to-waist; lift up to 5 pounds waist-to-shoulder, lift 1 pound shoulder-to-overhead, carry up to 10 pounds a distance of up to 50 feet, and push/pull up to 50 pounds a distance of 100 feet
