REPORTING RELATIONSHIPSReports to:Nurse Manager of Cath LabGENERAL SUMMARYWorks under the supervision of the Nurse Manager of the Cardiac Cath Lab. The Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse's primary job function is to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care in addition to assisting the physician during the Cath procedure. Policies and procedures for the department are maintained during this period of caring for the patient. The RN accepts responsibility for the direction of co-workers in the inplementation of the plan of care. Perform other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSEducation:High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam RequiredGraduate of an accredited school of nursing requiredLicensure:Licensed to practice as an RN in Ohio requiredBLS within 90 days of hire requiredACLS within 1 year of hire requiredExperience:Previous Cardiac Cath Lab and/or Critical Care experience preferred.Interpersonal Skills:Interpersonal skills to work effectively with a variety of professional and ancillary personnel to present a positive attitude and a professional appearance.Essential Technical/Motor Skills:Ability to use hands for simple grasping, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling, and ability to use feet for repetitive movement when assisting with procedures and/or using departmental equipment.Essential Physical Requirements:The physical demand level is very heavy requiring the ability to lift and/or maneaver objects weighing in excess of 100lbs. Stands and/or walks with normal breaks four to six hours when assisting with special procedure and treatments, etc.Sits with normal breaks three to five hours.Ability to use hands for simple grasping and fine manipulation in the operation of equipment.Bending, squatting, climbing, and reaching above shoulder level are occasionally required.Essential Mental Requirements:Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlines under pressure.Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally as well as working without assistance from other personnel.Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail.Essential Sensory Requirements:Good vision and ability to hear and speak clearly.Exposure to Hazards:Works in good physical surroundings.Occasional exposure to dust, odor, toxic substances, unpleasant patient care activities and infections diseases, computer and laser energy.Frequently exposed to radiation, body fluids, sharps and noise.Other:N/AJOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONSThe following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. Completes nursing assessment of patients in the Cardiac Cath Lab and documents appropriately into patient record.Communicates and collaborates with physicians and other health team members.Provides and coordinates patient care with other health team members.Monitors patients' responses to interventions and reports outcomes.Administers medication and assists the physician/cardiologist during the procedure.Monitor and evaluates patients before, during, and post procedure.Shares on-call responsibilities with a 30 minute response timeMaintains cleaniness of rooms and adequate stock of suppliesTransports patients as neededReports all equipment malfunctions and performs QCAS as requiredAssists in training newer less experienced employeesPre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policyPerforms intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU's.Thank you for your interest in Southern Ohio Medical Center.
