Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is a 122-bed, general acute care community hospital located in Torrington, Connecticut, that serves as a regional health care resource for the 100,000 residents of Litchfield County and Northwest Connecticut. POSITION SUMMARY

Plan, direct, and coordinate recreation-based treatment programs for people with disabilities, injuries, or illnesses. Therapists use a variety of modalities, including arts and crafts; drama, music, and dance; sports and games; to help improve or maintain patients physical, social, and emotional well-being.

  • Assess patients needs through observations, medical records, tests, and discussion with healthcare professionals, patients family and patients
  • Create treatment plans and programs that meet patients needs and interests
  • Plan and implement interventions to prevent harm to a patient
  • Engage patients in therapeutic activities, such as exercise and games
  • Help patients learn social skills needed to become or remain independent
  • Teach patients about ways to cope with stress, anxiety or depression
  • Record and analyze patients progress
  • Evaluate interventions for effectiveness

Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTFICIATION

  • Bachelors in Recreational Therapy or related field.
  • CTRS Certification
