Summary:The position of Machinist-VTL is responsible for the operation, set-up & utilization of all vertical turning lathes (VTL) as assigned to machine parts.Primary Functions and Responsibilities:Inspect manufactured components for conformance to specificationsAbility to set up and operate vertical turning lathesSupport for programming, ensuring proper use of programs & toolsAbility to work from travelers, blueprints, set up sheets, drawings and/or verbal instructions as well as limited judgment and experience to plan and accomplish goals.Able to use appropriate measuring devices, such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, plug gages, etc.Maintain a clean work area daily as required.Reporting Structure:The Machinist-VTL position will report to the Machine Shop Manager. RequirementsSkills, Education, and Experience:Able to understand complex machining theory and strategy.Ability to manage and prioritize a high number of set-ups and short run jobsAble to understand and interrogate complex mechanical drawings and tolerancesTechnical Degree or equivalency is preferredAbility to use common machine shop hand and measurement tools.Ability to set-up and run multiple CNC Machines in a fast paced environment.Fixture design, fabrication, and manual machining experience is a plus.Ability to read, write and speak effectively in English.Understand and follow Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance standard (GD&T).Strong math skills required.Aerospace experience a plus. 5 yrs. minimum experience, 10+ yrs. preferred)Self-motivation, able to accomplish high level of work.Team player, actively participating in continuous improvement projects with coworkers.Demonstrate high skill level with the desire for continuous learning.Experience working in AS9100 and ISO environmentAbility to troubleshoot and edit programs.Must own tools appropriate to the job being performed.Special Requirements and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) Requirements:Safety glasses required when in manufacturing environment.Hearing protection as needed.Votaw Precision Technologies actively seeks to enhance diversity and is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
