R&D Controls Engineer

This position is an onsite, full-time salaried position. Schedule, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm with an one hour unpaid lunch.Job Summary: Responsible for designing, developing, and integrating controls for heat transfer systems on battery and fuel cell powered heavy-duty equipment such as large mining haul trucks, excavators,and other heavy industrial equipment that is used around the world in harsh environments for tough applications.Essential Job FunctionsDevelop controls systems for heat transfer systemsResponsible for software and hardware selections as well as programming controls systemsValidate electric vehicle thermal management controls through rapid control prototyping and testingDevelop product performance specifications, interface, and control documentsTransition prototype controls systems to production platformIntegrate heat transfer controls systems into customers' equipment controlsAssist in developing controls for custom built production machineryPerforms related work or job duties as required by supervisor.Perform work in a safe manner and follow all safety guidelines and procedure.Domestic and international travel required and could include weekend travel depending on the project.Occasional weekend work may be required to complete a project.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required for Entry LevelRegular and reliable attendance.Strong mechanical and electrical aptitudeDetail oriented and strong initiativeKnowledge and understanding of vehicle and heavy-duty equipment controls systems and homologation requirements, standards, compliance testing, and qualificationsWorking knowledge of CAN bus systems and software such as CANalyzer.Ability to design, program, and troubleshoot CAN bus systemsWorking knowledge of PLCs and other types of controllers.Ability to understand complex electric and mechanical systemsKnowledgeable of engineering drawings, blueprints, and complex technical writingKnowledgeable of refrigeration systems and associated controlsExperience with robotics is a plusMust be detail oriented and have strong interpersonal skillsCommunicate, in English, effectively and clearly by both written and verbal meansDemonstrate maturity, intelligence, cooperation, and discretionPrepare and maintain a variety of related records, spreadsheets, and reports using Microsoft Office ProductsExperience with Auto Cad, SolidWorks, or similar softwareMust be able to prioritize responsibilities and handle multiple duties / projectsDependability under both supervised and unsupervised conditions.Ability to pass pre-employment physical, drug, and background testMinimum Qualifications for ApplicationBachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or similar field with 5 years' relevant experience in controls systems. Understanding of vehicular controls systems including CAN bus networks.Preferred QualificationsExperience working with battery and/or fuel cell powered equipmentExperience working with refrigeration and thermostatic controls systemsExperience working with roboticsKnowledge of Epicor or similar ERP systemExperience in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or Six Sigma
