Job Description Summary:
Assists patients in making financial arrangements on the self-pay portion of patient accounts; inform patients of hospital financial policies; collects required deposits from patients and guarantors. The employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.

Responsibilities

Protect the financial standing of the hospital and to avoid unnecessary uncompensated care by assisting patients in making financial arrangements on patient accounts.
Processes patients' financial responsibility estimates prior to, at the point of services, or per patient or management request.
Collects payments due on current or past due accounts at the time of pre-registration, registration, or discharge.
Performs financial assessments, including the use of work tools to determinate guarantor's propensity to pay, of patients or guarantors to establish payment schedules, and assists with setting payment arrangements in patient accounting system for current and past-due balances.
Screens patients through a series of general financial questions to determine possible eligibility for financial assistance, and adheres to Management Guidebook policy #8170, Patient Financial Assistance.
Facilitates applications for Patient Financial Assistance program for applicable patient accounts, and notifies patients of general background, timeframes, and expectations of the program.
Facilitates referrals of patients to eligibility contractors, if deemed eligible for alternate payer sources.
Documents interactions and developments with patients and all relevant information are in the patient accounting system.
Performs special projects as assigned by management within the specified time frames.
Continues education and training for all applicable IS applications, related to collections and counseling work drivers.
Continuously displays a caring and courteous attitude to all patients, family members, visitors, and hospital personnel.
Maintains patient health information and holds departmental data as confidential at all times.
Promotes and maintains a positive attitude and professional atmosphere at all times.
Adheres to WTH compliance plan and policies, and to all applicable rules and regulations outlined by accrediting bodies and local, state, and federal agencies.
Performs and participates in other duties or projects as required or directed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: High School Diploma required; Associates degree in Healthcare-related field preferred.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION: N/A
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 1-year in healthcare patient accounting preferred.
