Assumes direct administrative and instructional responsibility of the clinical component for the Sonography Programs sponsored by West Virginia University Hospitals in accordance with institutional mission and accreditation standards in order to graduate professionally and clinically competent individuals skilled in the field of Sonography.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Graduate of a formal education program in Sonography.

2. Associates degree in Education, Radiologic Sciences, or related field.

3. Holds active American Registry in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certifications in (1) Adult Echocardiography and (2) Abdomen and/or OB/GYN

EXPERIENCE:

1. Two years' experience in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography discipline.

2. Two years' experience as a clinical or didactic instructor in a formal Sonography education program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor's degree or higher in Education, Radiologic Sciences, or related field

2. Holds active American Registry in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certifications in Pediatrics and Vascular

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Administers the clinical component of the Sonography program to assure accreditation and institutional compliance.

2. Actively participates in the marketing and recruitment process while representing the institution in a professional and positive fashion.

3. Utilizes personal, institutional and objective mechanisms to effectively evaluate and select the best-qualified applicants for admission into the Sonography program.

4.

Maintains continuous and open communication with department personnel, clinical instructors and students with respect to changes and updates in programmatic administration, and/or instructional policies and procedures.

5. Counsels and advises students on a minimum quarterly basis with respect to clinical and professional performance. Utilizes assessment mechanisms to identify potential clinical difficulties requiring remedial education or tutorial support.

6. Directs students with special concerns to the respective support agencies provided by the institution or external organizations.

7. Provides supervision and operational oversight for the clinical instructors (C.I.) with periodic and annual input in the performance review process. Coordinates (C.I.) clinical instruction, activities, and schedules.

8. Actively participates, as directed, in department operations through proactive involvement and communication with staff and administration.

9. Maintains and develops the clinical aspect of the Sonography programs in accordance with the standards set forth by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

10. Develops and advises on didactic and clinical instruction methodologies and curriculum in an effort to maintain quality and consistency with current technical requirements and practices.

11. Provides didactic instruction in Sonography as required by current course offerings, curriculum changes, and professional standards.

13. Actively participates in patient care and imaging procedures in an effort to maintain professional and clinical skills and in support of the section's service initiatives.

14. Utilizes various mechanisms for accurate outcome assessment and programmatic evaluation in an effort to identify and develop new systems for improved efficiency and enhanced delivery of services.

15. Provides input into the development and utilization of the Radiology Education cost center budget with regards to materials and human resource allocation while supporting the organization's current financial initiatives.

16. Develops and implements a comprehensive assessment plan for evaluation of the Sonography programs as mandated by the CAAHEP and in reference to established department criteria.

17. Participates in departmental and organizational meetings, task forces, projects, and committees, as directed, in an effort to contribute to the attainment of established goals and objectives.

18. Participates in the development of in-house educational offering utilizing instructional skill and knowledge to enhance delivery and assess need.

19. Actively participates in professional development activities such as periodic attendance at professional society meetings, preparation and delivery of educational lectures, and self-directed academic pursuits.
