Position Summary

The facilities department at Allan Hancock College is accepting applications to establish a pool of qualified candidates for a short-term automotive mechanic at the Santa Maria Campus.

Essential Functions and Qualifications
  1. Inspects buses, automobiles, trucks, tractors, and other mechanical equipment used in the college;
  2. Diagnoses mechanical defects;
  3. Makes repairs such as overhauling engines, transmissions and differentials, fitting pistons and rings, relining and adjusting brakes, aligning wheels, installing axles, overhauling steering gears and drive shafts,
  4. Making other mechanical and electrical repairs; makes repairs to fenders and other metal surfaces; does electric and acetylene welding;
  5. Makes repairs to power lawnmowers and other mechanical equipment;
  6. Services equipment with gasoline and oil; lubricates equipment; changes and repairs tires;
  7. Drives bus as necessary,
  8. Assigns and evaluates student bus drivers.
Knowledge of:
Tools, equipment and procedures used in the service, overhaul, repair and adjustment of motor equipment and of fuel, ignition, electrical, cooling, and braking systems;

Methods and procedures used in the repair, overhaul and adjustment of heavy-duty automatic transmission;

Safety precautions and procedures. Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Individuals possessing the experience, knowledge, and abilities listed above are considered to possess the necessary education.

One year of experience as an automotive mechanic at the journeyman level; experience with diesel is highly desirable.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
A valid California Driver's License; and ability to qualify for district vehicle insurance coverage.

Successful completion of the examination for school bus drivers given by the California Highway Patrol;

First Aid Certificate

Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Salary
Program Assistant IV Hourly Rate: $23.54
