Location: Eureka, CA

Work Schedule: Full Time - 80 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Days **Job Summary:** The Clinical Dietitian delivers quality nutritional care to patients by completing nutritional assessment and documentation according to established timeframes. Provides patient nutrition education and communicates with members of the healthcare team through established channels. Using a multidisciplinary approach, works cooperatively with other healthcare providers to deliver the highest quality nutritional care to infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

**Essential Functions:**

* Provides continued liaison with the medical staff, nursing staff, and other SJH and RMH guidelines.

* Maintains current nutritional care policies, procedures and standards of care.

* Delivers quality nutritional care to patients by completing nutritional assessment and documentation according to established timeframes.

* Communicates with members of the healthcare team through established channels.

* Demonstrates competency in age-specific skills related to patients and their families, including infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.

* Assesses patients who are at moderate to high nutritional risk and documents according to established timeframes.

* Consults and collaborates with physicians and other members of the healthcare team on food and drug interactions, choices of nutrition therapy and absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of nutrients.

* Evaluates diet orders for appropriateness to age, weight and gender of patients.

* Evaluates the educational needs of the patients and family members. Educates in areas of nutrition care. Documents effectiveness of education.

* Collaborates with physicians and caregivers on discharge planning.

* Develops and maintains current nutritional care policies, procedures and standards of care.

* QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

+ Resource Utilization: Ensures that appropriate supplies and equipment are available, accounted for, and used in a cost-effective manner.

+ Safety: Helps to provide a clean, comfortable environment for customers and others by taking appropriate safety precautions and responds to urgent safety situations effectively.

+ Productivity:

- Organizes, prioritizes and completes activities in an efficient manner.

- Demonstrates initiative in assisting others and performing other duties based on skill level and training orientation.

+ Quality Improvement Program: Participates in department problem solving, suggests improvements, and facilitates change.

**Skills:**

* Ability to interpret documents such as medical records, physician and nursing orders.

* Ability to write effective chart notes and medical correspondence.

* Ability to speak effectively with all members of the medical team, patients and co-workers.

* Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

* Ability to deal with problems involving variables in a variety of situations.

* Ability to organize and perform a variety of functions under normal stress.

* Computer competency is required.

* Must be aware of the Joint Commission requirements specific to that population.

**Minimum Position Requirements:**

**Education:** Bachelors Degree in Dietetics or related field.

**Licenses/Certifications:** Current registration as a dietician with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
