POSITION SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant/Farm will perform a variety of accounting and administrative services according to established policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education: Bachelor's or Associates Degree in Accounting preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Staff Accountant; agriculture/farming industry experience preferred.

Computer Skills: Knowledge and practical experience with the Microsoft Office Suite. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills a plus. Proficiency in working with automated accounting programs and computers.

Language: English, Spanish a plus.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Accounting Manager/Farm in carrying out the responsibilities of that position
  • Participate in continually maintaining and improving accounting systems
  • Assist with cash & debt management
  • Prepare cash disbursements
  • Prepare 1099's
  • Prepare Use Tax returns
  • Reviews expenditures for appropriate coding, approvals, timeliness, etc.
  • Maintain property tax records & file returns
  • Maintain insurance records and related accounting and reporting
  • Record monthly journal entries
  • Perform month end close procedures
  • Prepare and disseminate various financial, production and inventory reports
  • Cross train with other staff where applicable to ensure complete cross-position functionality
  • Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in an office environment in a controlled atmosphere building and primary work environment will be in an office setting. As part of the scope of this role minimal duties may include being inside the plant manufacturing environment, which may include high levels of noise.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand, climb stairs, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception. The employee will, at times, be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as designated by the company. The majority of this role is performed in a manufacturing/office environment which may include high levels of noise with a possibility of performing work in an outdoor environment on occasion. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
