Overview Position Type: Parks, Recreation & Community Services - Seasonal Date Posted: 11/17/2025 Location: Dempster St. Beach Office Essential Function(s) Task Statements Know and enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to the Evanston Lakefront Conducts recruitment and hires seasonal employees Supports operations by maintaining office systems and supervising staff Maintains office services by organizing office operations and procedures, controlling correspondence, designing filing systems, reviewing and approving supply requisitions, and assigning and monitoring clerical functions Maintains office efficiency by planning and implementing office systems, layouts, and equipment procurement Designs and implements office policies by establishing standards and procedures, measuring results against standards, and making necessary adjustments Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results Keeps management informed by reviewing and analyzing special reports; summarizing information; identifying trends Maintains office staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees Maintains office staff and gate attendants job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees, and planning, monitoring, and appraising job results Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed Inspects vessels and enforces rules at sailing beach and power boat launch Manages Amilia waiting lists, rentals, beach tokens and daily admissions Attend staff training sessions Collect all due monies and check beach tokens at the beach office Balance all collected monies at the end of each shift Responsible for effective and appropriate communication to patrons Communicate and coordinate with Sailing and Aquatic Camp staff regarding rentals and lessons Know current beach programs and events and be able to communicate details to patrons Attend staff meetings as scheduled by office manager and outdoor program coordinator Maintain a clean and safe office environment Responsible for care and maintenance of equipment and storage areas Complete written reports such as accident, incident, batch and the like on a timely basis Communicate to supervisor(s) if there are problems or issues needing special attention Performs other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisor Assists with pre and post-season maintenance-related tasks as assigned Qualifications / Prerequisites Minimum Reasoning ability usually associated with this classification: Minimum Language ability usually associated with this classification: Amount of training, either on-the-job or formal education, usually associated with this occupation in addition to the Reasoning, Math and Language abilities detailed above: Completed at least 1 year of high school Complete all preseason training Physical Demands & Working Conditions Degree of Physical Demands (strength) usually associated with the essential functions of this classification Type of physical demands usually associated with the essential functions of this classification acuity-far: clarity of vision at 20 feet or more acuity-near: clarity of vision at 20 inches or less depth perception: ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are field of vision- observing an area that can be seen up and in a given point accommodation- adjustment of the lens of the eyes to bring an object into a sharp focus, especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from the eye color vision- ability to identify and distinguish colors Working conditions usually associated with this classification: Ability to lift, kneel, bend, stand for long periods of time, identify or distinguish colors, and work outdoors at night with limited lighting Environmental conditions (physical surroundings) usually associated with this classification: Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions such as rain, high temperatures, and humidity. Work environment includes beaches, recreation centers, multipurpose rooms, swimming pools, athletic fields, parks, playgrounds, and office space Environmental conditions (hazards) usually associated with this classification: The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions approximately 5% of the time and outside work 95% of the time with no effective protection from weather conditions or temperature changes Employment Details TITLE: Beach Office Manager - Summer 2026 PAY RATE: 20.50/hour HOURS: Varies, based on operations. Seasonal, under 1,000/year DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation Prerequisites for Employment Must be at least 18 years of age Available to work May 23 to September 7, 2026 Basic knowledge of standard money handling procedures & customer service skills Pass both the Criminal and DCFS background checks Pass drug and alcohol screen Basic math skills exam and interview Hours: Varies, weekdays and weekends up to 40 hrs/week from May 23-August 31, 2026. Must be able to work at least 4 days a week. General Task Statement Responsible for the sales and operations of the Dempster St. Beach Office. Hires, trains, schedules and manages gate attendants and office staff.
