We want you to applyJob Summary and QualificationsThe Manager Pharmacy Operations will work closely with the Director of Pharmacy to coordinate and supervise designated operational functions of the pharmacy department. Included in this capacity is the oversight and supervision of the clinical pharmacist staff. The Manager Pharmacy Operations must combine administrative and clinical skills to create a well-functioning, patient-oriented department that promotes rational and safe drug therapies. This individual shall provide drug information and clinical resources to health professionals and patients within our facility. The Manager Pharmacy Operations supervises staff pharmacists, interns, and pharmacy students, and monitors all aspects of drug therapy in the facility. Regulatory issues, compliance issues, clinical metrics, tracking and trending facility data, and quality improvement will fall under the responsibilities of this position. In all aspects, The Manager Pharmacy Operations will represent the Pharmacy Department as the lead clinical authority.Position Responsibilities: The individual in this position must lead the clinical pharmacy team by example. This individual will be held to the highest standards at all times. The Manager Pharmacy Operations will be expected to:Comply with facility policy and procedures and regulatory requirements.Perform drug procurement (inventory pharmacy stock, prepare drug purchase orders, order drugs (including controlled substances) as needed, receive drugs and prepare products for final distribution, assure that drug inventories are adequate for existing need, make recommendations where warranted to help control the drug budget).Process medication orders and ensure related patient charges (receive orders, labels, maintain medication profiles, reconstitute oral medications, compound parenteral admixtures, and assure the accurate and timely dispensing of medications).Identify, monitor, document and oversee interventions related to medication order processing, as appropriate. These interventions include the identification of drug interactions and adverse drug reactions.Assist in maintaining a closed formulary at LCMC.Work with physicians on therapeutic alternatives where available.Perform clinical pharmacy functions (complete interventions and pharmacokinetic assessments in a timely manner, actively participate in patient medication counseling, and the documentation of counseling).Demonstrate good communications skills (provide upward/downward communication in problem prone situations; exercise judgment in determining when to involve department leadership; provide documentation of medication events via the occurrence reporting mechanism; communicate with appropriate staff with respect to scheduling/PTO etc.)Demonstrate a proactive attitude, seeking to remedy situations before they arise. Report quality concerns to the Director of Pharmacy.Ensure that conduct is in accordance with Corporate Ethics and Compliance policies and procedures.Maintain proficiency in sterile compounding and serve as a source of knowledge for pharmacy staff.Monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies and appropriateness of drug and dose.Suggest appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic medication alternatives to medical staff.Sustain the hospital formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchanges and promoting rational drug therapy selection.Provide accurate and updated medication information to healthcare staff and patients.Assist with clinical services such as drug consults, nutrition support, pharmacokinetics, anticoagulant monitoring, pain management, IV to PO conversions, automatic substitutions, renal dosing and other programs as defined by Pharmacy Leadership.Document all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completelyComplete incident reports regarding medication errors and adverse drug reactions.Supervise pharmacy interns and technicians in accordance with applicable law. Assist in the training and orientation of new staff. Observe,supervise, and provide feedback to pharmacy techs/interns to ensure quality and adherence to facility policies and procedures.Maintain professional competency sufficient to meet current and future needs of the facility.Provide basic technical support for automated dispensing machines and other pharmacy computer systems.Demonstrate professionalism in coaching and counseling.Provide daily operational supervision for staff. Responsible for reporting any staff-related behavioral or functional issues to the Director of Pharmacy.Work with the pharmacy clinical staff to coordinate and organize pharmacy department staff meetings and to share Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) issues.Perform duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy in the best interest of the department. Develop, promote, and execute plans for achieving department goals.Exercise judgment in determining when to involve the Director of Pharmacy.Report activities, accomplishments, occurrences, and concerns to the Director on a regular basis.Assume responsibility for ongoing professional development.Attend regular meetings with the Director of Pharmacy for the purpose of advancement and development of pharmacy services.Assist with preparations for and actual annual pharmacy inventory.Monitor Vigilanz and other clinical data to drive pharmacy metrics.Oversee the clinical pharmacy dashboard and work with the Director of Pharmacy to improve facility scores.Provide medication in-services for the nursing and/or medical staff as needed and/or as requested by the Director of Pharmacy.Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with nursing and the medical staff by coordinating projects that foster a positive relationship with pharmacy.Conduct basic Pharmacy I.T. functions, including maintenance of the drug dictionary in Meditech, drug profiles, and the timely addition of new medications.Maintain the Chargemaster and drug codes. The Manager Pharmacy Operations shall work closely with accounting/finance and Revenue Integrity to keep all drug codes and charges current.Assist with the organizational aspects of the P&T and MDT Committees.Support and participate in the goals of the organization’s quality improvement, risk management and patient safety program to include but not limited to National Patient Safety Goals, Core Measures and HCAHPS, and all medication-related initiatives and goals derived at the facility, division and corporate level. This includes troubleshooting of clinical metrics and working with clinical staff for improvement.Facilitate the development, interpretation, and revision of pharmacy department policies and procedures.Contribute to committees and meetings as determined by the Director of Pharmacy (Pharmacy & Therapeutics, Pharmacy department meetings, AMP, MDT, performance improvement teams, medication safety committee).Lead the Antimicrobial Management Program and other clinical programs as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy.Proactively intervene in conflicts between pharmacy and medical staff regarding drug therapy.Serve as a role model and educator for the staff in terms of pharmacy practice and patient care.Constantly work to promote good department morale.Assist in the selection of new staff members. Assure that appropriate new employee orientation and training are provided to new staff. Communicate any staff shortage concerns with the Director of Pharmacy to ensure that personnel requisitions are entered in a timely manner.Supervise staff clinical pharmacists. Ensure that the pharmacists on staff are performing clinical functions (patient monitoring, medication profile review and dosing, and therapy interventions) according to practice expectations. Provide feedback as appropriate.Supervise the training of new pharmacists and pharmacy students.Coordinate the Medication Use Evaluation (MUE) program to improve patient care outcomes and ensure adherence to all regulatory agencies. Data is to be compounded quarterly (or according to quality metrics).Promote optimal medication use through participation in Inter Disciplinary Team (IDT) rounds and education of other health care professionals.The Manger Pharmacy Operations Manager is expected to willingly function and perform in the role of a staff clinical pharmacist when needed. This need may be short-term (pharmacist sick day or PTO) or longer term (staff shortage) until the void is filled with permanent staff.Perform the duties of the Director of Pharmacy in his/her absence.Perform other duties as assigned.What qualifications you will need:Licensure/Certification/Registration: Licensure with the Florida State Board of Pharmacy. Residency training certification preferredEducation: Bachelor of Science, Pharmacy required; Doctor of Pharmacy degree preferredExperience: 2 years inpatient hospital experience preferred.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: As defined in competencies, P&Ps, and Job Description.Degree of Supervision Required:Individual will work closely with the Director of Pharmacy.
