Position Classification FT Administrative Hourly Position Summary The Financial Aid Counselor’s duties include counseling and advising students and parents on the various financial aid programs by assisting with the administration of one or more federal, state, or institutional financial aid programs, evaluating Financial Aid applications to determine student eligibility for various financial aid programs, and by collecting data, as needed, efficiently and accurately. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assists students in the application process for financial aid by helping them to complete appropriate and required forms; by advising them of their rights and responsibilities concerning financial aid; and by providing them with information about the status of their financial aid applications. Ensures student and parent awareness of the various financial aid sources during counseling sessions by providing information to them and answering their questions regarding financial aid sources. Determines students’ eligibility for the various financial aid programs by evaluating their applications. Prepares correspondence, enters data, develops financial requests for funds disbursement, and other documents relating to financial aid. Packages federal, state, and institutional financial aid awards to students. This includes, but is not limited to, reviewing student files, understanding and implementation of policy and procedures, producing written correspondence, and preparing mailings. Promotes a positive image of the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office by making presentations related to financial aid for prospective and currently enrolled students on campus or off campus at community service functions. Contributes to broad based management of the Financial Aid Office by providing input to office policy and procedure decisions. Maintains competency and professional courtsey through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses. Assists in the preparation of required statistical reports by collecting data and keeping accurate records on programs administered by the Financial Aid Office and by designing and revising forms as appropriate. Contributes to the overall success of the Office of Student Financial Aid by performing all other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education – A college degree. Experience – Up to six months (Equivalent combination of education and employment). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work with diverse populations. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational, prioritization, and attention to detail skill sets. Demonstrated practical interpersonal skills and enthusiasm, as well as respect for individuals. Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality. Ability to manage customers with high expectations. Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative team-oriented office environment. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service. Physical Requirements Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Work Environment Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
