Job Description Salary: Job Description: Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working closely with other key stakeholders, the Nuclear Systems Engineer (Core) is responsible for overseeing the design, development, and optimization of “core” (UF6 Feed, Product Withdrawal, Tails Withdrawal, Blending, Sampling, and supporting systems) systems for a commercial-scale uranium enrichment facility utilizing GLE technology. Responsibilities include identification and qualification of system requirements, development of alternate system design concepts (where necessary), performance and evaluation of design trade studies, selection and implementation of preferred designs, and integration and execution of the designs with other systems and the overall facility.

NOTE: This role is subject to the incumbent’s ability to hold and maintain an NRC Q-clearance, as well as their ongoing ability to maintain nuclear site access. This role may be filled at a higher or lower level of responsibility commensurate with the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and experience.

Roles and Responsibilities: Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of key technology and business drivers, and use that understanding to drive requirements, specifications, and flow-downs for applicable systems. Perform and oversee system design activities including, but not limited to:

System requirements definition System boundaries and interfaces System design basis and specifications System operating basis Major equipment requirements and sizing Support system requirements Instrumentation and controls Equipment layouts/general arrangements Licensing and regulatory requirements Testing and maintenance provisions Commissioning and turnover plans Safety requirements and considerations Process hazards analyses and accident sequence descriptions Reference codes and standards

Perform process flow diagrams and calculations, piping and instrument diagrams, equipment sizing, logic diagrams, failure modes and effects analyses (FMEA), process hazards analyses (PHA), and other activities as necessary to support system requirements and specifications. Oversee system and component integration while ensuring maximum safety, performance, and operability. Manage interfaces with cascade and balance of plant systems. Work closely with technology development teams and other system engineers to refine system requirements and interfaces, perform design and risk mitigation trade studies, and manage system configurations. Drive vendor identification and supply chain development for major system equipment and components. Manage the system and components requirements definition and maintain configuration control. Drive validation and verification activities for all core systems, including system level testing. Participate as a subject matter expert in process hazards and integrated safety analysis teams supporting licensing activities. Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university or college in mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, or other relevant discipline. Minimum five (5) years of experience in an engineering role. Minimum two (2) years working with similar/relevant mechanical, chemical, or nuclear systems. Self-starter who can work in a team environment with minimal direction and supervision. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing. Excellent time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong technical acumen. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient at Microsoft Office suite. Ability to work extended hours on occasion and travel as required (~10%).

Desired Qualifications: Active DOE/NRC Q-clearance or equivalent (DOD Top Secret) strongly preferred. Advanced degree in engineering or technical discipline. Understanding of and/or experience in the nuclear fuel cycle industry and technology, especially uranium enrichment and the processing, handling, and storage of UF6. Experience with the engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and/or operation of nuclear or chemical processing facilities. Experience and familiarity with nuclear fuel cycle facility licensing and regulations (US NRC). Working knowledge of applicable quality standards and systems (e.g., NQA-1, ISO 9000, etc.). Proven interpersonal and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to think strategically. Ability to navigate and lead others through ambiguity or uncertainty. Ability to set and maintain high standards of performance and accountability.
