Position Summary

As a Senior Accountant at Empower, you will play a critical role in shaping the financial integrity and strategic direction of our rapidly growing organization. Your expertise and contributions will ensure that our financial operations align seamlessly with our mission to expand access to quality, affordable medication. This position is central to maintaining our high standards of quality and compliance, as you will be responsible for preparing and providing detailed financial statements, sales reports, commission analyses, and other crucial reports that support our dynamic business environment.

In this role, your day-to-day activities will include ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies, from tax filings and audit preparation to comprehensive financial reporting. You will develop and maintain robust procedures and controls that not only mitigate risk but also enhance the accuracy and reliability of our financial documents. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with upper management, advising on budgeting strategies and supporting the achievement of our overall goals and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares and provides financial statements, sales reports, commission reports, analyses, and other reports on a scheduled or unprompted basis.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies, including tax filings, audit preparation, and financial reporting.
  • Develops and maintains procedures, and controls designed to mitigate risk and enhances the accuracy of the company's financial documents and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepares general ledger entries and reconciliation for the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close duties.
  • Tracks and reconciles monthly capital expenditures.
  • Processes accounts payable transactions and develops vendor relations.
  • Processes accounts receivable invoicing, monitoring including some payment processing and credit and collection activities.
  • Analyzes trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, budget variance, revenue forecasting, and expenses.
  • Performs payroll import and reviews the tabulation, monitoring and distribution payroll costs to the appropriate general ledger accounts.
  • Confers with upper management about budgeting and reviewing strategies to meet overall goals and objectives.
  • Conducts detailed financial analysis and reporting to support decision-making and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Maintains good corporate relations with customers, vendors, banking institutions, auditors, and other affiliates.
  • Assists and coordinates the preparation and filing of the company's annual tax returns with contracted Certified Public Accountant (CPA) firms.
  • Provides guidance and support to junior accounting staff, including training, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles and standards, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in financial management systems and software, such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Excel, and financial reporting tools.
  • Proficiency using QuickBooks.
  • Technical skills in account reconciliation and month-end closing.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience with healthcare or manufacturing experience preferred, not required.
