Civil and Environmental Engineering Department Area Lead

POWER Engineers Inc. is seeking a civil and environmental engineering area lead for our civil engineering practice reporting to our Cincinnati, OH office.

Roles and responsibilities

The area lead has a dual role:first, to fulfill the job responsibilities of their core position as a civil engineer and, second, to manage a small group of personnel within the larger department.The area lead is a managerial position and requires strong technical and corporate knowledge, as well as management and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform duties of current position as a civil engineer
  • Meet goals and objectives of current position as described by department manager (billability, etc.)
  • Supervise the personnel that are part of the area lead's group
  • Approve timecards and expenses
  • Establish goals and objectives for direct reports with input from department manager
  • Perform performance reviews of direct reports with input from department manager
  • Assist in the organization and workload distribution of personnel as delegated by the department manager
  • Manage direct reports to meet project, department and individual objectives
  • Fulfill management tasks within the department
    • Participate in and lead department staffing meetings and conference calls as necessary
    • Participate in and attend weekly business unit meetings discussing workload, business development, and staffing needs as necessary
    • Participate and support departmental annual planning, budgeting, and reporting
    • Identify areas and methods for process improvement within their group and the department
    • Perform quality control reviews for projects and personnel
    • Collaborate with other area leads and department managers
    • Provide training plans and mentoring for personnel
Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Seven ( ) years of experience in design and consulting of civil engineering projects
  • Knowledge of civil engineering design, including site development grading, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control design, and environmental permitting support
  • Experience in SWPPP preparation and NPDES stormwater permitting
  • Experience in writing and managing the preparation of technical reports or permit applications
  • Experience scoping and estimating budgets for various civil engineering projects
  • Experience mentoring and recruiting staff
  • Task and project management experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality and professionalism
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the region with potential travel throughout the U.S.
Desired Education/Experience
  • Professional Engineering License preferred
