POSITION TITLE:Grocery Manager

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Store Director

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

To plan and manage the Grocery Department to promote sales and achieve profit margins and labor goals; ensure a positive shopping experience for customers, and a safe and positive working environment for associates.

NATURE AND SCOPE

Emphasis in this position is ongoing department planning, execution and evaluation to ensure maximum sales and profit opportunities, effective cost control, efficient utilization of labor and strong customer service levels.Primary challenge is consistently meeting or exceeding department profit and labor goals.This position is responsible for providing effective training, development and work direction for department associates, and requires the ability to encourage individual and group effort toward department objectives.This position requires judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, memorization, reading, writing, math, moderate to heavy lifting, walking, operation of forklift, pallet jack, order processing tools and box cutter.Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs.Assignments and work direction are provided by the Store Director or person in charge.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

1.Assist customers and ensure proper service levels and courtesy from all associates

-Greet customers

-Assist customers with special orders, requests and new items

-Answer customer questions

-Perform price checks

-Exchange product when necessary

-Assist customers with product; suggest product

-Bring customers to location of item, when needed

-Cashier and assist at check out lanes

Functional Requirements

Frequent:Physical - lifting to 50 lbs., equipment operation (scanner, register, scale, check approval machine, coupon machine, intercom), reaching, standing, turning;

Mental - judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, memorization, reading, writing and math

Occasional:Physical - lifting over 50 lbs equipment operation (adding machine),

calculator, squatting, stooping/bending and walking.

2.Develops effective daily/weekly work plans based on weekly sales projections, budgeted labor goals and previous operating results

-Analyzes sales and labor projections

-Plans promotions, seasonal displays

-Plans and prepares for up-coming ads; order sufficient product to support Ads

-Plans and implements seasonal items and resets

-Determines work priorities and establishes work lists in order to consistently maintain adequate department conditions

-Determines work needs and writes labor schedule in most effective manner to meet these needs

-Communicates with Store Director/Assistant Store Director concerning ongoing department status, including successes, problems and planning

-Participates in weekly store meetings

3.Implements and maintains coordinated, aggressive and creative merchandising plans, using Division guidelines, which maximize sales, variety and gross profit

-Consistently monitors sales of demand and profit items

-Monitors shelf allocation and variety

-Monitors movement and stock levels to ensure proper ordering

-Collaborates with vendors on approved space allocation, displays, and follows through on product quality, and credits as appropriate

-Collaborates with other departments ensuring store-wide promotions and cross merchandising

-Ensures proper product quality, presentation and rotation

-Assists with stocking and display building

equipment operation (box cutter, forklift, shopping cart, pallet jack, pricing gun,

4.Ensure accurate pricing and signage within the department

-Ensure display pricing "on/off" program is current

-Verifies for correct pricing

-Ensure product is correctly signed

-Utilizes point-of-sale material

-Conducts competitive price checks

5.Supervises Grocery associates to ensure efficient labor utilization and effectiveness in meeting department objectives

-Effectively communicates tasks and priorities

-Directs and monitors department associates to ensure completion of assigned tasks and efficient uses of man hours

-Reviews production work sheets and production graphs to ensure goals are met

-Monitors sales per man-hour and payroll, and adjusts labor to production and work needs

-Ensures department and aisle conditions; product availability and placement, display to shelf stocking, facing, rotation, cleanliness and safety, and signing are maintained properly

-Ensures proper handling to control shrinkage and waste

-Ensures customers receive prompt and friendly service and assistance from all department associates

-Ensure adherence to store department policies and procedures

6.Manages Grocery receiving, invoicing, pricing, shrink control and inventory to ensure proper productcontrol and that gross profit goals are met

-Supervises and assists to ensure accuracy and organization of receiving function

-Processes invoices accurately and timely, checks credits and transfer slips for accuracy and verifies purchase journal against receiving record

-Reviews gross profit report weekly against receiving records, invoices and other store comparisons

-Performs and documents accurate inventory

-Collaborates with Pricing Department and signing is accurately maintained for all items and systems and monitors price sensitive items in market

Functional Requirements

Frequent:Physical - lifting/carrying 5 to 100 lbs., pushing/pulling 200 to 2000 lbs., reaching,

turning, walking, sitting, equipment operation (fork lift, flatbed, pallet jack)

7.Trains and develops grocery department personnel

-Trains department personnel in proper techniques and procedures

-Ensures forklift and racking procedure training to designated associates

-Ensures associates know and follow pertinent company policies and procedures

8.Supervises department safety and sanitation programs

-Ensures all associates are properly trained in the proper use of equipment use, maintenance, and sanitation standards, proper lifting and all related safety rules and procedures

-Ensures no one under 18 years of age operates hazardous equipment

-Reports all accidents to store management and/or completes incident reports as required

-Observes department conditions and ensures prompt removal of potentially hazardous situations

-Conducts department inspections and maintains safety checklist

-Reviews insurance allocation reports and itemized statements of loss reports

9.Performs Grocery Department personnel functions

-Interviews and makes hiring recommendations

-Conducts and ensures all probationary and regular performance reviews are completed

-Provides individual and group guidance and encouragement toward department objectives

-Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures

-Maintains attendance policy and procedures within the department

-Recommends and administers corrective actions as appropriate; seeks direction from Store Director and human resources as required

10.Performs as Manager on Duty supervising entire store as needed

-Ensures overall store conditions
