Job Description:Software Engineer (Mission Systems) to join the KC-46 Tanker Mission Systems Avionics (MSA) software team located in Tukwila, WA, within the Defense, Space & Security (BDS); Mobility, Surveillance and Bombers (MS&B) organization.The MSA team supports U.S. Air Force and international KC-46 customers and other platforms, providing integrated hardware and software solutions that provide tactical situational awareness to the flight crew and on-board network systems. The latter enables net-centric applications and beyond line of sight communication for the warfighter via secure and non-secure ground networks during KC-46 aerial refueling missions.This position will include a variety of software development assignments, such as new capability development, delivered capability upgrades, defect correction, and proof-of-concept prototyping via Internal Research and Development (IR&D) activities.The successful candidate enjoys working collaboratively with others, has a commitment to customer satisfaction, quality and process improvement, and is successful working in a multi-contract/multi-project environment.Occasional travel may be required but would be less than 10%.Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Experienced and Senior Level Software Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:* Leads activities to develop, document and maintain architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems* Leads development of code and integration of complex software components into a fully functional software system* Develops software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met* Provides technical leadership for software projects and leads software supplier management activities* Leads development, selection, tailoring and deployment of processes, tools and metrics* Plans, executes and documents software research and development projects* Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations* Tracks and evaluates software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards* Works under minimal direction

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):* Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree* 3 years of experience with UNIX, Linux, and/or Windows development environment* 3 years of experience programming in C

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):* 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience* Experience with JAVA* Experience developing embedded (real-time) software* Experience with bus communications and protocols including MIL-STD-1553* Experience with Electromagnetic Support Measures (ESM), Passive Trackers and/or Link16* Experience with open architecture constructs like Open Mission Systems (OMS)* Hardware and Software Integration experience

Education / Experience:Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience (e.g. PhD 4 years' related work experience, Master 7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
