Job Description

The Tax Manager will have an integral role in the operations of a $1.5 billion transportation and logistics company that has successfully acquired and integrated 25 businesses in the last 5 years. This individual will be the primary preparer of the quarterly and annual income tax provisions. Additionally, this individual will be the primary preparer of the tax footnote and related financial statement disclosures made within the Company's quarterly and annual SEC Rule 144A reports. The Tax Manager will maintain the Company's tax depreciation schedules and work closely with the Company's auditors as they review/audit the tax provision. The Tax Manager will also serve as the primary contact to the accountants responsible for preparing the Company's consolidated federal return. Additionally, the Tax Manager will be responsible for making various filings related to 2290 (Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax), IRP filings (International Fuel Tax Agreement), and ad valorem filings.

In addition to these recurring responsibilities, the Tax Manager will play an integral role in ad hoc analysis for the Company and certain of its subsidiaries. The Tax Manager will consult the Company on matters ranging from transfer pricing arrangements, purchase accounting, and tax planning analysis, which will support the CFO and other stakeholders within the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare quarterly and annual tax provisions
  • Prepare tax related financial statement disclosures
  • Prepare 2290, IRP, and Ad valorem filings
  • Assist external tax preparers with consolidated federal tax return
  • Respond to all tax notices
  • Maintain tax depreciation schedules for the Company's fixed assets
  • Serve as primary contact for external auditors for all tax related matters
  • Perform ad hoc tax planning analysis for CFO and other internal stakeholders

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must have a BS in Accounting from an accredited college or university (Required)
Master level degree (highly preferred)
A minimum of 5 years of public accounting experience (Required)

LICENSURE:
  • CPA (Required)
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to interact comfortably with senior level management.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong understanding of state and federal tax law
  • Ability to research and write technical memos

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Decisions made with general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause short-term impact to co-workers and company results.
