Position Title: Scale Shack Clerk
Reports to: Log Accountant
Department: Log Accounting / Roseburg Log Yard
Hours per shift: Employee will work 10 hour shifts (6:00am-4:30pm), Monday - Friday, with two 10-minute breaks and a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
Wage: $18.38 Hourly/Full-time/Long-term

Position Purpose: Weigh in/out all incoming/outgoing log trucks and by-products trucks. Complete all necessary paperwork related to the processing of these trucks.

These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job. Weigh in/out all logs trucks and by-products trucks. Input all loads into weigh shack computer system and verify accuracy. Provide all trucks with necessary paperwork for processing. Communicate with log yard manager, loader operators, log accounting, and log scalers to resolve issues. Check scaling bureau tickets for accuracy. Sort and reconcile log and by-product tickets daily. Identify species of logs to determine required destination. Monitor inventory of all necessary scale shack supplies. Create and maintain a safe, clean working environment at all times. Must be very good with numbers. A high amount of number matching is required at all times. Cross train to back up office personnel during mill downtimes. Tasks may include Log Accounting, Production Reporting, Accounts Payable or other general office tasks.
Working Environment: (1) Inside 90%, average temperature 70 degrees F (2) Outside 10%; extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 105 degrees F. Noise or vibration: Machine noise to include machines being operated as well as other machines close by including Forklifts. Hazards: See Job Hazard Analysis. (3) Atmospheric conditions: Fumes: Wood, Dust: Limited, Mist: Water, Odors: Wood particle, Gasses: None, Poor Ventilation: None

Personal Protective Equipment Required: (1) Eye Protection. (2) Safety Vest. (3) Approved Footwear.

Physical Demands: See the Physical Capabilities as listed below; this position requires constant use of hearing and vision, bilateral use of arms and hands, frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling and reaching, and occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 30 lbs.

Skills: Must have excellent hand eye coordination. Use vision/hearing continuously. Reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, monthly safety training, etc. Worker generally works alone with little supervision. Must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task. Ability to prioritize, organize, and make necessary decisions.

Safety: (1) Do only maintenance you are trained to do and keep all body parts out of machinery. (2) Always use our 14 step lockout/tagout procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy. (3) Always use proper body mechanics (ex: don't over reach, get help as needed to push loads out). (4) Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection). (5) Be aware of and communicate with your co-worker at all times (ex: forklift driver). (6) Will be required to read and write during safety training.
